Palladis

Palladis, much like Ostia , is largely a nation of dwarves with a smattering of gnomes. Largely they are tinkers and smiths of various kinds, specializing in technology. Firearms of many types are available around the country, though some are safer than others, and errors in judgment regularly result in explosions in workshops. About five years ago, Dictator Manius Afranius rose to power, seizing it from the former government in a coup d'etat and routing most of the officials. The coup was the product of a rift between the government and the military, and the military rose up and took over, instating the general as the dictator following the revolution. Unlike many other situations where governments are overthrown, Palladis' revolution did not result in a worse situation for the people of the country. Taxes were lowered, corrupt officials were thrown out, and people are more or less happy with the change. Despite his position as a dictator, Manius Afranius has proven to be a very fair leader who has been very popular with the people overall. His daughter, Petillia Afranius, is in line to ascend to the throne after her father, and she has proven a capable leader also. Like many dwarves, the Palladii tend toward being warlike and fierce both in the defense of their borders and in defense of their craftsmanship and work. They are known particularly for their skill in creating weapons of war. Their armor and weapons are famous the world over, though moreso than that (which they do not export) are their constructs. A (what some consider unholy) mix of magic and machinery that create warriors to fight on the battlefield that are animated by control words and rods rather than suits of armor filled with people. This has both increased Palladis' esteem in the world in addition to ensuring Palladis' independence for the foreseeable future.
