Siege of Sentinal City

“It didn’t have to be this way, you know... there didn’t need to be a siege. All this could’ve been avoided if you all weren’t so blind.” -General Wickeff, 2035

Probably the most defining event of the new world, The Seige of sentinal City is still remembered by whole generations of traumatized people. Whether due to the siege itself, the loss of respect of heroes, or the anarchy and unrest that plagued the world for decades afterwards.
Prelude
General Wickeff had grown tired of the tireless back and forth fighting between the heroes and the Rogues, with very little actually being accomplished. Hating the thought that his efforts were now just contributing to the stagnant order of the world instead of fixing it. To remedy this, he had conceived of Operation Hercules, in reference to Hercules freeing the titan Prometheus from his torment in Greek Mythology. It was the greatest plan Wyckeff ever made, the final end all solution to destroying the Supers and bringing the universe to order.   Operation Hercules detailed how The Followers of Prometheus and their allies would obliterate the Heroes and desecrate their capitol Sentinal City, before finally expanding to liberate the rest of the world from its corrupt masters and setting their sights on the rest of the universe.   It was an expensive endeavor however, and many of the more spineless and corrupt Followers would have a hard time going along with it and installing Wickeff as de facto ruler of the earth. So Wyckeff kept the plan in reserve, waiting years for the day he decided it was time to bring the world to order and that the system was too corrupt to be allowed to endure.   That day came when Wickeff, after successfully raiding a UHL blacksite, discovered sensitive information regarding the clairvoyant Melody. Horrified at the treatment of such a young girl by the hands of high ranking Leaguers, and the hypocrisy of openly condemning his actions while they were mistreating a child all the while, Wyckeff immediately called a meeting with high ranking Followers, prominent allies, and his most trusted lieutenants. There he revealed the deplorable actions of the league, and announced he was enacting Operation Hercules, even if he had to do it himself.   Sickened (and seeing opportunity), most gathered agreed and pledged their support to Wyckeffs cause, making their own preparations and investments for the siege.

Historical Significance

After many years of the new Superhero Golden age, fundamental problems with the superhero community and how it operated had finally festered beyond fixing, exposing cracks in the organization. Wickeff had found out about the horrific experiments and treatment of Melody, a powerful clairvoyant at the time, at the hands of major figures in the superhero community. Outraged, he deemed their treatment of the girl to be irredeemable, declaring that the superhero community needed to finally be destroyed and a new order take its place.

Legacy

The siege, and its subsequent effects, left a scar on a whole generation that is still felt to this day. The world no longer sees heroes as invincible infallible figures, no longer secure in the knowledge that the heroes will always save the day. Due such a major event, unrest plagued the world economy. Wall street practically collapsed when everyone hurriedly began to sell their stocks for a whole years, and barely anyone foolish enough to buy. Not helped by the fact that Sentinal City was an economic powerhouse, home to millions of people and housing the headquarters of many major companies. The American government suffered several coups and attacks from both rogues and misguided politicians, powerless to stop increased Rogue attacks as they fought for the right to rule. The siege itself had also severely depopulated the superhero community, not helped with the sudden disappearance of a quarter of all superheroes before the siege.
