Sledges

If you want to travel to anywhere in the frozen town of Jeldone the sledges are the best way. Visitors to Jeldone find it quite unusual at first, but the experience is quite something. No animals guide the sledge, but four drivers push their legs against the frozen ground to get the sledge moving. They must be in a perfect rhythm in order to keep a safe speed and communicate who is going to break and when. The sledge itself sits on long metal blades that help the carriage or main part of the sledge move through the snow. Passengers sit on plush cushions with no roof. This can make for a rather cold trip, but the cushions are warmed via a magic spell to the passengers will not be frozen statues by the time they get to their destination.
If a driver is not careful or if their is rhythm is off from the other drivers the sledge can get wildly out of control. It takes much experience and skill to become a sledge driver, but a test must also be passed. The tests being implemented only after several crashes, one of which turned deadly. The voice of the people required the sledge drivers be licensed.
This form of transportation has also led to the ever popular sport of sledge racing. A sport in the town of Jeldone that many come to see and witness.

Propulsion

The sledges are moved by the drivers who stand at each corner of the sledge. One foot is on the sledge while the other is in the snow. Their hand grasp the bar nearby and then in synchronization the drivers will push off with the leg touching the ground. The drivers also have a boot with a reinforced heel used when slowing down for turns or coming to a stop.
