Hitoshi Mountains

All of my life I have been looking for this tunnels, yet it has been fruitless. The assurance of immense treasure is starting to taunt me, as I keep failing to unburry it. The only success is to have beheld these magnificient summits.
— Tenzin, archeologist and scholar of the Xun Valley
Far beyond the thick forest stand the legendary Hitoshi Mountains, a cluster of frost peaks that tower over the horizon. This mountains are mostly inhabited, although some military outposts and local tribes might be found at its base. The crests of this mountain range are both cloudy and snowy, making any trip to them a hazard. Because of this, the local bugbear tribe of Chodrak serve as guides through the mountain ridges.

Geography

These cluster of mountains contain the highest peaks in all of the realm. The peaks can be faintly seen all the way from the isles of the Koi clan. The mountains border Shizo's death sands to the north and the Toru river south, along with part of the Urami darklands. The low temperature and barely-breathable air prevent life to prosper at higher altitues.

Natural Resources

At its southern side, the mountains hold some silver deposits that provide the people from the Urami darklands a lucrative industry.

History

About a thousand years ago, a civilization of goliaths used to populate the region. The Shigeo were said to build finely masoned interconnected tunnels that provided safe passage through the mountains. As of now this culture has been long gone. None of the tunnels have been found since excavations began centuries ago.

Tourism

Surprisingly, the Hitoshi mounatins have relatively constant tourism throughout the summer months. People from all across the lands come to visit the monasteries and temples that inhabit the mountains. This treacherous routes are often traversed with the company of a chodrak, a member of a bugbear tribe who lives in the mountains and is familiar to the area.
