Seknian Earth

Earth was something of a conservation zone within the galaxy where the development of a primitive species could be observed and documented with a strict policy of non-interference. While this policy was tested many times over humanity's history, the tensions of the cold war would be see it finally abolished.   1985 was the date a false alarm interpreted as an actual attack escalated to full nuclear war. In the resulting fallout, the various powers in the galaxy were forced to intervene and help to manage the planet-wide humanitarian crisis.   Earth lies on the border between two multi-planetary civilizations- the Republic of Seknia, and the United Planets of Maridin. After the destruction of Earth, contact was made, and the their presence was explained. Management of Earth was entrusted to Seknia, which turned it into an autonomous, but ultimately subservient protectorate.
