Kestrel

Kings of the Plains

Kestrels are large, carnivorous birds that are found most plentifully in the southwest region of Dægra known as Kestrel's Glade. They are similar to the Earth's shoebill in shape and capacity for destruction but but surpass them in sheer size and plumage.

Big, Big Birds

Kestrels stand about 8 feet tall at the wingjoint and have an average wingspan of 20 feet. Their massive wings can lock into place and keep them aloft for days if necessary.

No Need to Hide

With no predators, kestrels didn't need to hide themselves or their young. As such, they can be found with various shades of plumage that can be altered by the food it eats. Female kestrels are notoriously picky and will usually only eat a food it would normally refuse if the alternative is death. This gives them the brightest and most homogeneous pigments in their plumage. Males are much less picky, eating anything small enough to fit in their mouths. Their plumage is browner and more subdued.

Immovable Objects

Kestrels need to use an enormous amount of energy to get themselves into the air but not much to keep it there. Therefore, they conserve as much as they can by sleeping as much as they can, even while airborne. It is said that if a kestrel isn't sleeping, it's eating and would rather be sleeping.

Night Ambush Royalty

They hunt from the sky at night by dropping on prey and using their weight to stun and kill.

Master Sprinters

They fly real fast if they want to but can sprint for long distances with little effort.
