Seed World IX-DIOMA
21-4-1432
The world was built as a colony ship, designed to reach a habitable orbit then transform into a new planet, then populate it from stored genes.
Something went wrong with the ship-planet's engine, however. Although it was deployed correctly, many systems were destroyed, damaged or corrupted, leading to unpredictable effects. One of these was the failure to introduce civilization to the humans, and so they had to start from scratch.
Many of the gods of this world are AIs that are either misunderstood, corrupted or re-purposed. They range from supercomputers that are nearly omnipotent in their controlled territories, to AI personalities using holograms, to a machine that prints a list of detailed instructions on how to repair one of the ship's doors... in binary.
The world ship comes from a time where technology has progressed far beyond what we can comprehend (or have we just forgotten? The timeline is up for discussion). Based on the famous Arthur C. Clarke quote, magic is advanced technology, just mostly broken and abused. Energy from the ship's engine has leaked through the world, permeating the world's structure and then being used as 'magic' by the unknowing residents of the surface.
Demons exist, but not as we know them. They appear from portals, or are summoned by those inclined, and generally cause death, mayhem, terror and destruction wherever they go. So far, very demon-like. However, these 'demons' move with purpose, are specially designed for that purpose, have a shaky relationship with time, and are not, strictly speaking, alive...
