House of Nine Gems

The House of Nine Gems is the only officially recognized house of pleasure in Ish'ae. While that official recognition is only from the nation state of Krysaton, the assurance of quality that the House of Nine Gems provides makes it highly respected throughout the world. When it comes to the House of Nine Gems, there is no pleasure unknown.
The guild takes it name from it's curriculum. Separating all forms of possible pleasure into nine disciplines, each discipline has it's own symbolic gem. Prospective courtesans are trained in all aspects of each discipline. While master courtesans can train students, it is only from studying at the main houses along the Road of Nine Gems in Krysaton, that a student can qualify for official mastery of a discipline.
The nine gems are as follows-

Upon mastery of a respective discipline, a studying courtesan gains the right to wear that respective gem. A courtesan with all nine gems in a necklace is considered a master and can make a fortune anywhere in the world. These masters are allowed to operate their own brothel should they choose, and or instruct other student courtesans. Very often, most courtesans specialize in a handful of the disciplines, and make a very healthy living that way. Gaining even one gem in a discipline is said to at least double the asking price for any courtesan.
Many of the finest brothels in Ish'ae are operated by just such a master courtesan, with the full support of the House of Nine Gems behind them. This support often means that the local government, both official and criminal, are either bribed or threatened from interference with this establishment. The House of Nine Gems has amassed a vast fortune, as well as hundreds of connections with all levels of society.

Structure

Each of the nine disciplines have an establishment along the Nine of Road Gems, the campus and headquarters of the House of Nine Gems. These establishments are referred to as a house. For example, The Diamond House, The Jet House, etc.
Each house has three heads. These are considered the most experienced in their field, and are elected by from among the teachers of their household. The position is a lifetime assignment.
From these twenty seven heads, a Grand Courtesan is elected. The heads are unable to vote, but all Master Courtesans through the world are able to cast a vote. This process often takes months, as votes are sent from throughout the world. This Grand Courtesan is relieved of their respective duties and position as a Head of a House, and replaced. The Grand Courtesan is additional lifetime position, except for the rare event that all twenty seven heads of house vote in a consensus the Grand Courtesan can be removed from their current position.
