Spell Catalysts
Note! This is Sebai legacy content for Dungeons and Dragons 5e and is no longer applicable to our Pathfinder 2e game. I simply keep it around in case I ever run 5e again. Refer to Archives of Nethys for relevant spell catalyst stats.
Listed below are the spell catalysts found in Sebai that can be used to modify or augment casters' spells. These are available to you through magic shops that exist in most Sebanese cities. As a general rule of thumb, uncommon items can be found in all cities marked on Sebai’s world map and rare items can be found in Sebai’s capitol cities. Very rare and legendary items are typically unavailable to purchase and are generally only found while adventuring. Some items will be listed as illegal next to their rarity. These items can still be found in cities, but they are not available at reputable stores. Players must search for them in less savory areas, instead. All items have a minimum character level requirement to use them.
Spellcasters must use either their bonus action or action to activate a catalyst on the same turn they cast the spell they are augmenting. Spell catalysts cannot be added to spell effects granted by other magic items. In addition, spellcasters must have a free hand to hold the catalyst in while they cast the spell for it to take effect.
Beetle Silk
Level 3; Price 35 gpRarity Uncommon
When the silkbeetles of Danjon are crushed and mixed with rice flour, it creates a paste that glows a faint green aura. When used with a spell, it deals an additional 1d6 poison damage from spells that target a single creature or 1d4 poison damage from spells that target an area.
Basalt Rings
Level 3; Price 35 gpRarity Uncommon
The dwarves of House Watashi produce small basalt rings imbued with minor fire runes. When used with a spell, it deals an additional 1d6 fire damage from spells that target a single creature or 1d4 fire damage from spells that target an area.
Roc Amethyst
Level 3; Price 35 gpRarity Uncommon
When roc feathers are placed within amethyst, it generates a small amount of cold energy. When used with a spell, it deals an additional 1d6 cold damage from spells that target a single creature or 1d4 cold damage from spells that target an area.
Saldi Tongue
Level 3; Price 35 gpRarity Uncommon
The tongue of the Saldi newt found near the Oashisu Oasis carries a magical essence that can be used by spellcasters. When used with a spell, it deals an additional 1d6 acid damage from spells that target a single creature or 1d4 acid damage from spells that target an area.
Soothing Scents
Level 3; Price 25 gpRarity Uncommon
Performers popularized these bundles of aromatic herbs to calm the mind and ward off misfortune before a big show, though soldier bards have found them especially useful for clearing fear during particularly tumultuous battles. Adding this catalyst to any type of healing spell also causes the spell to remove the target's frightened condition.
Firestarter Pellets
Level 5; Price 50 gpRarity Uncommon
These compacted pellets of bat guano, sulfur, and magical accelerants have long been a staple for spellcasters on the battlefield. When used with a spell that deals fire, cold, or lightning damage and targets a single creature, the target is burned against that damage type until the end of your next turn if the spell hits or the target fails its saving throw.
Healer's Gel
Level 5; Price 35 gpRarity Uncommon
An astringent aroma from rare succulent plants wafts off these soothing cloth patches. Adding this material component to a healing spell bestows 5 temporary Hit Points to one target healed by the spell.
Shimmering Dust
Level 5; Price 45 gpRarity Uncommon
This luminous mica dust fluoresces for a short time after being exposed to significant amounts of magical energy. When combined with a spell that forces a Wisdom saving throw, the spell causes the target to shed dim light in a 20-foot radius for the next minute upon failing their save.
Beetle Silk (Greater)
Level 7; Price 200 gpRarity Uncommon
The same as normal Beetle Silk except that it deals an additional 2d6 or 2d4 poison damage.
Basalt Rings (Greater)
Level 7; Price 200 gpRarity Uncommon
The same as normal Basalt Rings except that it deals an additional 2d6 or 2d4 fire damage.
Roc Amethyst (Greater)
Level 7; Price 200 gpRarity Uncommon
The same as normal Saldi Tongue except that it deals an additional 2d6 or 2d4 cold damage.
Saldi Tongue (Greater)
Level 7; Price 200 gpRarity Uncommon
The same as normal Saldi Tongue except that it deals an additional 2d6 or 2d4 acid damage.
Healer's Gel (Greater)
Level 8; Price 225 gpRarity Uncommon
The same as normal Healer's Gel except that it gives 12 temporary hit points instead of 5.
Deathless Light
Level 10; Price 200 gpRarity Uncommon
This glowing piece of flesh boosts the effects of light spells. When you use this with a light spell, it doubles the range of the spell's light and causes it to dispel magical darkness.
