True Sawjaws
Sawjaws are a species of large, feline bio-mechanical creatures, named after the spinning blades in their lower jaw. Typically the apex predator of its environment, Sawjaws are rarely preyed upon. True Sawjaws can be found in wide, open spaces, where their athletic bodies can outrun most prey creatures.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Possessing four legs, an athletic, powerful body, and a multitude of cybernetic implants. Resembles a big cat, such as a tiger or a lion, but without fur. The jaws of a Sawjaw are metal, with the maw of an older individual being rusted and frail. The upper jaw has several sharpened teeth while the lower jaw has no teeth, but three spinning, jagged saws. They also possess two forward facing organic eyes, two earholes found behind said eyes, and a single hole found between the eyes that functions as a nostril. Their claws are sharp, made of metal. Their skin is rough like leather. Pistons and organic muscles can be found underneath the skin, as well as a metal skeleton. Their blood is a black, slick substance.
Genetics and Reproduction
Sawjaws possess two biological genders, male and female. Five months after impregnation, a female will lay an egg. The egg is more a slimy, stretchy bag than a hard shell egg. During pregnancy, the female will consume almost double the amount of metal for what is considered normal for a Sawjaw, as the successful development of the offspring is dependent on her gathering enough metal for the implants to develop.
Growth Rate & Stages
While in the egg, Sawjaws develop slowly. Often, the mother will remain in the area to protect the delicate egg and its developing occupant. The contents of the egg is a soupy liquid that slowly constructs the individual. Individuals that result from inbreeding might emerge from their eggs with malfunctioning vital mechanical components and perish within days. The individual will emerge from the egg fully formed physically, but mentally young.
Ecology and Habitats
While their behaviors may vary between subspecies, True Sawjaws prefer open areas where their eyes can easily spot prey and where their prey has few places to hide. Sawjaws themselves prefer to hide while searching for prey, usually behind rubble or in a dark location, scanning their surrounding environment for prey to chase.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Sawjaw diet requires an individual to consume several pounds of meat and metal every day. Their jaws and digestive system allows them to consume even rotting meat as well as break down rusted, weak metals. They typically stalk their prey before engaging in a short chase, since Sawjaws are often faster than their prey.
Biological Cycle
Sawjaws grow more active during warmer days and are most active during the summer. During winter, Sawjaws hibernate. Their biological processes slow down and their mechanical parts receive enough power to barely function.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Their eyes are very well developed, capable of spotting prey a great distance away. Their eyes are also capable of seeing in the dark with minimal light. Hearing isnt quite as developed or as sensitive, with their smell being the worst sense. Their sense of touch is dull and weak as well.
