Rentar (Ren-Ta-ar)

Rentar is the largest city in the Old world. Its famous for its jovial people, and well fed communities. This is due to its commanding presence over the Breadbasket Cradle Zone. Its fertile valleys produce most of the wheat that the rest of the world eats. Rentar is, however, fairly suspicious of its outsiders, and holds strict tariffs and taxes on imported goods, the most famous of which being the Medini Eels that are a delicacy to the people. This has lead to a strong undercurrent of smuggling that exists throughout the nation.   Religiously the city follows the local gods of the area in a lax form of polytheism that is considered almost non-religious by other nation's standards. The gods of the area seem to be at ease with the current structure as they rarely communicate with the people. Because of this lack of religious zeel, the city struggled with Kings claiming divine right and now utilizes a militocracy system with a group of 5 Generals meeting quarterly to vote on the current issues proposed by lesser officers. The generals are selected through the vote of military service members. Notable or heroic Military members generally hold higher positions of power post service. As people without service history, immigrants, or people unable to serve tend to fall to the lower rungs of society. Only military members can own land.   The currency here follows a similar bronze, silver, gold standard as the nearby city-state of Fane, and generally has a richer nation due to its heavy exports. Ethnically the city is mostly Human, around 55% with the other races of Dragonborn, Tieflings, Elves, Gnomes, and other rarer races taking up the remaining portion of the population.
