Osculos

The most dreadful and unpleasant of all the eight Disignos on Planeros is Osculos. Though travel between the realms is possible, and quite common, few, if any, are willing to travel from their native Disignos into Osculos, and no one from Osculos ever seems to leave.   It is of note that, despite its dreadful, unwelcoming nature, the resident mahn of Osculos, known as Dissonants, seem to find great comfort in the dreary, twisted landscapes of their homeland.

Geography

The land of Osculos is quite eerie. The land is bleak, and where it is not barren, it shoots forth thistles and thorn bushes. Empty water basins dot the land, making travel difficult at best, hazardous at worst. The few forests that can be found in Osculos are full of nothing but twisted and petrified trees. The sky above is always gloomy, leaving the land in a perpetual twilight. Sudden thunderstorms are common, as are waterspouts over the grey, churning Sea of Calamity, a sea so treacherous that not even the residents of Osculos would dare fish on it.

Fauna & Flora

Though appearing dead and abandoned, Osculos is full of life. The dry, dead-looking grass that covers most of the ground is actually alive and well, thanks to the frequent rainfall. The petrified trees of the forests are all fruit bearing, producing a variety of very tasty fruits.   Wolves are a very common sight in Osculos, though they are only active during the day, as the nights in this region are too pitch black for even these crepuscular hunters. On the rare occasion that the sky is clear during the night, the wolves are sent into a frenzy, and reportedly become twisted versions of themselves that sport human faces.   The Dissonants, as the locals are called, are the most eerie of all the life forms that inhabit this world. Despite the lack of sunlight, their skin comes in a variety of colors, likely a result of genetics more than environment. Some are pale white, while others can be grey skinned or so dark in color that they are completely black and seemingly featureless. Residents of the region do have quite a few things in common, however, such as their glowing eyes, sharp teeth, and skin that pulses as their hearts beat. All residents are also capable of spinning a substance similar to spider's silk, which they often use in crafting and decoration.   The sea life of Osculos is the only real danger to the residents of the land, as everything that resides in the Sea of Calamity exists with the sole purpose of killing any who try to enter it. The sea weed is covered in small hook-like barbs that lunge forth and latch on to any who enter, dragging them down into their venus fly trap-like orifices. The smaller sea life mostly consists of carnivorous schools of fish who have been known to even chew through wooden boats to get to their prey. However, the greatest danger is the large sea life, such as the mahnta rey. These creatures have fully developed human hands, and will climb onto any seafaring vessel and directly attack its passengers. It is theorized that the farther one goes into the sea, the greater the danger, though none have ever managed to make it very far.

Natural Resources

Though trade with the Dissonants is generally avoided by other Disignos, Osculos is the source of some of the best tasting and most valuable fruits the world over.
