Mahnta Rey

The mahnta reys are an aquatic species of carniverous, amphibious creatures that dwell in the Sea of Calamity in Osculos. Though appearing humanoid in form, the mahnta rey is not considered to be a race of mahn, as they are not believed to be capable of higher thought. Some believe that they are guardians of the great sea, keeping undeserving sailors out, while others simply believe them to be opportunistic hunters with a taste for mahn meat. Only the most capable of sailors have managed to travel far enough into the sea to even encounter the beasts, and even fewer still have survived the encounter. Because of the limited number of eyewitness accounts and the fact that Dissonants (the residents of Osculos) are not naturally adventurous, this species is poorly documented and numerous conflicting stories abound.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Mahnta reys are only found in the Sea of Calamity in Osculos, and nowhere else in the world. They never come near the shore line, but have been spotted swimming through the water only two miles offshore. They typically keep at least five miles out into the water.
