The Ur-Storm

The First and Last storm. The Eye of the End. Firstborn of Akaros. Wind of Yolack. It's names and titles are as numerous as the stars it blots out.   As one of the more dramatic permanent meteorological features of Saheim, it has unsurprisingly garnered no small amount of worship over the eons. The current belief in Sableheim's more popular religions is that it is the body, or perhaps "shadow" of one of their major gods: Akkadis-Ur. In myth, Akkadis is said to have been created by the first conflict, and this storm seems to be the manifestation of that conflict, the echoing effects of that initial cosmic row.   Physically, it is a colossal storm, seemingly unending in both size and extent. Where once it was contained to the plane of elemental air, it famously spilled over into the material plane during the Scourging. Whether this was intentional or accidental is unclear. For several months out of the year, it rotates around Sableheim, preventing a great deal of ship travel to and from the continent. It's favored site of landfall is almost unerringly the swath of land to the north which are, shockingly, now referred to as the Stormlands. When nightfall comes, the storm lets loose its fury, bathing the lands in a magnificent (and blinding) torrent of lightning. The effects this constant barrage has on the region are immediate everywhere, as all life dwelling there has had to adapt to the unpredictable storm.   When not terrorizing the north, the Ur-Storm retreats to somewhere west, beyond Sableheim, where it gathers strength in the Frenzied Wilds. It is one of the main reasons that Sableheim is seen as the Dark Continent to the world beyond, as its comings and goings make ship travel to and from the continent a dangerous endeavor during large portions of the year.   Generally, the Ur-Storm strikes Sableheim twice a year during the cycles Tyber and Atma. The months vary, but usually alternate depending on if it is a 'Light' or 'Dark' year.
"Enemies of Akaros!
My gales lash out like whips!
My voice is thunder! My words are white fire!
Wherever there is sky above, there also hangs my spear."
-Akkadian war poetry, author unknown
