Hanqala

Founded by the descendants of the Ekrims who left Coniston after the Massacre of Pizahn and the subsequent prejudices against magic, Hanqala is the most magical civilization in Gatia. Hanqala keeps to itself, and very few people bother Hanqala. Due to its proximity to the Keel-Haab volacano, traveling to Hanqala is considered very dangerous; likewise, no one really knows what to anticipate from the denizens of Hanqala. The sages are known for their healing abilities, though, and other Gatian citizens will sometimes risk the trip if they are in need of a desperate cure. The real trick is finding the city, buried deep in the mountains and hidden behind both walls and illusory magic.   Following age-old tradition that subscribes to the doctrines of the three High Powers, Hanqala is split into three districts that train their citizens in the art of their high power: The Meijyn Forum is dedicated to Life (Necromancy, Enchantment, Evocation), the Court of Zaa'min focuses on Time (Abjuration, Divination), or Behrnoheria pays homage to Space (Conjuration, Transmutation, Illusion). The three districts cohabitate peacefully, but do not intermix their educations. In the center of the city is The Plaza, the only place in the city with no magical bonds and therefore an open area for all Hanqalians to congregate.   When families are formed in Hanqala, they are generally between wizards of the same district, and they remain in residence in that district. If the families have children, those children are generally brought up in the ways of their parents and remain in the same district of study; thus, it is very common to have families with generations of wizards focused on the same discipline, all living together in their district.   While same-district upbringings are the most common, it is not forbidden to marry outside of your district or study something different from your parents. When mixed-district families are formed, those families move to the residencies on the outskirts of The Plaza, as they no longer only belong to one district. Mixed-district families tend to have the most diverse outcomes among their children, as those children get to know all three districts to a larger extent than children raised within the walls of one specific district. When children of mixed-district families choose a discipline, they then move to that district.

The Plaza

While Hanqala very rarely gets visitors, The Plaza is where they are sent whenever they do. The Plaza is home to the only inn in Hanqala, and is also populated by several music halls, food vendors (including bakeries and tea houses), and social houses. The main gates of Hanqala open into The Plaza, and you must pass through The Plaza to get to any of the main districts. There is also a small section of residencies on the outskirts of the Plaza for families who no longer study and their children who have yet to pick a discipline or for those who have retired from their studies.

Meijyn Forum

The Meijyn Forum looms above the rest of the city as the highest district in Hanqala. Dedicated to Meijyn, the Lord of Life, the Forum focuses on necromantic, enchantment, and evocation magics. The Forum also has the largest number of pupils. Both the district and the main hall are known as the Forum. The Forum is perched high on a cliff, and dives deep into the earth with numerous levels of classrooms, practice ranges, and dormitories deep in the earth. The Meijyn Forum is also home to a battle arena, where its scholars challenge each other to test their own skills and gain glory. Due to its number of students the Meijyn Forum also has the largest number of tutors, and is overseen by Azer Perrini (the Archmage of Evocation), Annaple Jospin (the Archmage of Enchantment), and Beves Valance (the Archmage of Necromancy).

The Court of Zaa'min

Although the Court of Zaa'min is the smallest of the three districts, it is perhaps the most powerful, focused on Abjuration and Divination in honor of the Lord of Time, Zaa'min. Led by Pallans Peruzzi (Archmage of Abjuration) and Sybell Joren (Archmage of Divination), the Court is perhaps the most religious of the three districts, and is the only district with a temple to their Lord outside of their main scholastic facilities. The Court's residences are circled around a clocktower whose runic faces are so complex they are rumored to bring madness to anyone who looks upon them if they are not skilled enough in chronomancy.

Behrnoheria

Perhaps the most mysterious and often the most practical of the three branches of study, Behrnoheria is dedicated to the magic of Space under the guidance of Berhnohere, Lord of Space. Focused on Conjuration (Archmage Giso d'Atturno), Transmutation (Archmage Galodan Bevarial) , and Illusion (Archmage Serime Andretti), Behrnoheria hides behind illusory walls that can only be entered by those who know where they are and how to pass through them. In addition to focusing on the magical manipulation of space, the scholars of Behrnoheria are also the most appreciative of the space they exist in as it is, and the district is filled with lush green spaces and architectural elegance.
