Demelle

Several days south of Coniston lies the small village of Demelle, a settlement of roughly 500 citizens. Backed up the Knyqig Woods, Demelle’s primary export is lumber and crafted wooden good. Several trappers and hunters also seek furs and other animal products deeper into the woods. The village also has a strong faction of gatherers who explore the shallow edges of the woods, where unique spices and herbs grow in abundance. Demellasy don’t tend to use much spice in their own lives, but they fetch high prices with the traders of Coniston. There are not many farms in Demelle, but there are a few small ones that produce mainly chickens, squash, and other seasonal vegetables.   Like Dalry, a Baron is appointed to serve the people of Demelle. Since they are a bit more removed from the city, the Demellasy don’t tend to adhere to a strict “one Baron” policy, and instead work as a community that simply uses their Baron to report to the Council during Chamber.   The citizens of Demelle enjoy making the journey to Coniston for the annual festivals, and appoint a small guard (of usually 25 or so) to look out for the entire town during these times. While this is normally no issue, there was a time 40 years ago when a cottage caught fire; because the members who had stayed were occupied elsewhere, the fire was not caught until the cottage and the two next to it, as well as a month’s stock of lumber, were consumed in the fire. Since then, Coniston has threatened to occupy the village with troops during this time if they cannot hold themselves responsible.
