Tay

Tay, Fauna of the Bayir Rift

If you've seen a common crow then you know the general shape of the Tay. Unnvering to many is that you might have also seen a Tay and mistaken it for its common cousin. At a casual glance they look similar to their common cousins but then you see the second set of eyes above the first. Each Tay is hatched from the egg of a crow that has been nurtured by the residents of the rift and gifted the second pair of eyes. Through these eyes the natives of the rift can watch the world at large that exists beyond their borders.

Unlike their cousins the Tay continue to grow after hatching until they are equivalent to an eagle and other large birds of prey. Their second set of eyes also take on a reddish tint as they age. There have been documented cases of their feathers changing colours as they spend more time in other locations. Taking on the green tint of the world, or the red of the Shaytan and even stranger shades. The one thing you won't find outside of the Bayir rift is nests. The Tay will often steal the eggs of crows and return with them to Bayir because they cannot produce eggs themselves

There are numerous superstitions surrounding the Tay and they are considered a bad omen by many cultures that live outside the rift. However there are also very strict laws that prevent the hunting of these creatures. It is often impossible to tell who might be watching from behind the eyes of a Tay, or if it is simply a wild Tay that has strayed from Bayir, but nobody is fool enough to take the risk.
