Skren

The Skren are the dominant species on the planet Uo-Ska, a hot, dry world dominated by desert. The Skren resemble 10-legged centipedes with crocodile-like mouths. They originally lived in massive underground burrows, in groups of about 30. They functioned much like ant colonies, with a queen, a few drones, and workers. However, a genetic mutation occurred in some Skren that allowed the normally sterile workers to give birth. They were no longer tied to a queen, so they joined together and began to construct their own cities. The new Skren advanced rapidly, eventually achieved spaceflight and joined the galactic community.
