Isle of Damnation
Overview
Near the western Rylan mainland is an island called the Isle of Damnation. Occupied by the Council of Phaedra, the large castle there is where all the "evildoers'' belong. The Isle of Damnation is, in other words, a prison for political and religious detainees. Its isolated location makes it escape-proof, and such is why no prisoner has ever managed to leave the island without being soon executed. This gives the area a notorious reputation but even more so with the torture. The most common means of torture include flagellation and strappado, which are often used for interrogative purposes. However, some wardens will subject the detainees to more lethal measures under the fanatic belief that such brutality will absolve the latters’ evildoings. Due to today’s mass hysteria, the number of people sent there has risen by hundreds or possibly even a thousand. One of the many unfortunate victims includes Kyrel’s mother.
