Miztulan

Miztulan is a famous stronghold in Minuba. It had been a place of refuge for many different peoples as it dominates a plateau surrounded by open ground. It is known for its spires that reach high into the sky.   When the Darcassian Empire began their conquest of Minuba Miztulan was a major road block. After a year long stalemate the city was stormed, many of its spires toppled by the invading Imperial Vennacti. The ruins of such spires can still be seen toppled across the landscape.   While Miztulan has a reputation as a fortress, it has always been considered a city.

Government

Miztulan is placed under the direct control of the Imperial Vennacti. Currently it is the 17th, 22nd, and the 23rd Regiments holding the city. They are commanded by Colonel Malakai Rittof. Rittof is the city governor who answers to General Prudence.

Defences

There are two walls defending Miztulan. The first wall surrounds the outer edge of the plateau the city is built on. Behind that wall is the interior, much taller than the first. This wall presented a major obstacle for the the Imperial Vennacti that besieged the city.   The spires also provide firing lines and artillery, making Miztulan a major roadblock to any conqueror. Many of those same spires have been toppled as a warning to the enemies of the Martocrat. Traditionally the inhabitants of the surrounding farmsteads would flock to Miztulan in times of trouble.   The Imperial Vennacti have a proactive approach to cracking down on dissent. Patrols are sent out daily to root out bandits, rebels, and dissidents from the countryside while also maintaining a close watch on the towns surrounding the city.

History

Miztulan was created by the Dwarves of Mazatkan. Originally a gift, the fortress became a collaborative effort between the Dwarves and the Elves. Examples of their architecture coexist throughout the city.   Much like Mazatkan, the Dwarfs of Miztulan closed the gates of the city during the upheaval of the War of Zealots and Martyrs.

Tourism

Tourism (and trade) have slowed down due to the military crack down on the city and surrounds. That said, much of the city's splendor has been restored, even if much of its historical landmarks have been obliterated.

The Heaven Spire

A temple to the God Kings, the Heaven Spire was occupied by the Imperial Vennacti. As a sign of the superiority of the Martocrat to the old God Kings the Spire was rededicated to the Martocrat and the slain God King Mars. Statues, reliefs, art, and libraries of the God Kings were destroyed, vandalized, sold, or burned. The Heaven Spire is now a dark, looming reminder of the Darcassian Empire's total control over Miztulan and Minuba as a whole.   A Darcassian Radio tower was built at the top. The many Darcassian radio programs play 24/7, spouting propaganda and inspiring the Imperial Vennacti running the city. Colonel Malakai Rittof rules from the Spire.

The Copper Spire

Built by the Dwarfs for the Elf inhabitants, the Copper Spire was badly damaged during the siege. Much of the damage has not been repaired, only replaced as the Darcassian Empire are repurposing the Spire to be a Zerizite processing factory. Much of the spire's beauty, of Elf and Dwarf architectural style, has been stripped then replaced by Darcassian blue marble, banners, and murals. Anything of value was taken back to Kiimati.   The city's inhabitants were understandably outraged at the ransacking.
"The Darcassians have no respect for anything we have built by our own hands. They show no respect to the things we, together with the Dwarves, have built. They seek only to replace it with their own entitled and self-serving designs. There will come a reckoning one day. Our defeat at Miztulan will be avenged."   Red Raven Jorian

The Marine Spire

A spire built by the Elves, the Marine Spire has not been touched by the Imperial Vennacti. Staffed by Elf representatives, here the surrender of the city was brokered between the Elves and the Imperial Vennacti. It is a sight of constant protest. The Elves remain here, working hard to integrate the city into the Darcassian Empire in the face of opposition.   It is a testament to Elf craftsmanship, with waterfalls falling from the Spire's sides, lush gardens, and jewel encrusted stone. The Spire was left undamaged after the war.

Jeweler's Block

One of the few places largely left untouched, Jeweler's Block is home to the city's craftsmen and workers. It is situated around the Jeweler's Block, a strange, well, block that has interesting properties. Among them is its ability to be quarried but never run out of stone or appear to have been mined. It is considered sacred to the Dwarves of the city. Legend has it that the Dwarf God King Langir created the block as a gift to his people.   It is home to Dwarfs, Elves, and recently large numbers of Imperial Vennacti. The presence of the soldiers in the block have caused local disputes and the occasional discharge of weapons in the streets. That said, the Block remains a fine example of pre-war Dwarf and Elf construction. Business continues in the Block, with even the Vennacti settling down and living in apartments alongside the city's locals.

Miztulan Caverns

Beneath the city is an entire underworld. The city caverns are as finely crafted as the rest of the city. While the city was being stormed, those unwilling to surrender hid in the networks of caverns, dragging the victorious Imperial Vennacti into a war of attrition. The underground has still not quite been pacified. Despite the dangers the Caverns are just as much a living quarters as any part of the city.

The Ruined Wall

When one of the spires crashed down, it crushed both sections of wall, granting the Imperial Vennacti access into the city. Unable to plug the gap, the city and its defenders were overwhelmed. The remains of the wall have been repurpose into a kind of shanty town, full of locals too poor to leave the city, and locals too stubborn and determined to repair the damages. The Wall serves as a reminder of the city's past glory and its fall to invaders.
