Character Creation

A new Adventure Awaits!

By HolyDemiurge
Welcome to the exciting process of making a new character! Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the game, it's always good to review the rules.
Follow the steps below on how to set up your Character:
  1. Go to the Dnd Beyond link for the campaign on Discord, or click Hereif you are making a concept character or unsure of which link to use.
  2. Enable the following sources: Homebrew, Critical Role, Magic of the Gathering, Eberron, Dragonlance, Optional Class Features, and Customize Your Origin. Then disable all other sources.
  3. Enable Milestones or XP depending on the campaign, and enable feats and multiclassing. Choose a fixed HP option.
  4. Select a class that interests you, and a race that catches your eye.
  5. Use the Point Buy system to determine your attributes.
  6. Choose a background and equipment (and spells if applicable).
  7. Develop your character's backstory, where did you come from and where will you go? Talk to your DM on campaign-specific restrictions or if you have ideas on how to tie yourself into the campaign. E.G have the BBEG steal your cat or other nefarious things.
  8. Choose 6 magic items that you want, consulting the internet for ideas. Inform your DM of your choices, as they will roll the dice to determine if you find the items and their cost.
  9. Decide on a key element of your backstory to form a strong connection with, such as your race, class, faction, place of origin, or history. Consider how this element shapes your identity and guides your decision-making.
  10. Consider the various pantheons of gods and choose which faction you will worship. You can choose a specific pantheon or a particular deity within that pantheon. If you are agnostic, you do not necessarily disbelieve in the existence of gods, but rather feel that they have no impact on your life. If you have a religious background it is vitality important to choose.
  11. Review the lore for each class to find one that fits your character. If there is not enough detail in the existing class lore, ask your DM for additional information. If none of the existing class lore fits your character, consider creating your own class lore . Alternatively, you can discuss the possibility of creating new class lore with your DM to better reflect your character's personality and goals.
  12. Additional information
  • Rondo is a low magic setting, with medium lethality across the region. Specific locations may vary in lethality.
  • The level of your character will depend on the campaign. Refer to the campaign details for more information.
  • If you want to multiclass, talk to the DM about it first. As fun RP is great! Min Maxed BS less so.
  • Your character will start with 500 + 1d10 * 25 in money, plus their starting equipment.
  • Magic items can be acquired through a system that simulates pre-adventure acquisitions and can be incorporated into your backstory. The DM will roll twice to determine if you find the item and its cost. You may look for 6 magic items, either the same item multiple times or a combination of different items.
  • The chance of finding the items and their cost are based on the table below.
PS. Magic armour is the cost of the original plus the cost of magic enchantment.
PPS Cast off armour is also Cast on.
Chance based on Level and Cost
Rarity Levels 1 - 8 Levels 9 - 14 Levels 15 - 20 Item Cost
Common 40% 50% 70% 50 - 100

  • Homebrew options can be found in the campaign's homebrew section. Talk to the DM if you want to add homebrew to your character.
  • Ask the DM which variant rules are in use, Currently using: Variant Races, Surprise, Inspiration, Crafting a Magic Item, Feats, Firearms and Explosions, Milestone Experience, and Multiclassing.
Note: spells are accessible no matter their source. (and backgrounds). excluding Strixhavens.

  • Make sure your character has a reasonable reason for being in the same rough area as the group, and for wanting to stay with the group for an extended period of time. They should also fit in well with the group dynamic and follow the rules of the campaign.
  • Consider your character's final words or thoughts in the event of their death, and their personal quest and goals in life. What is their tie to the group and how do they fit into the campaign's story?
