1st Mate Log #7 - The Doll
Just a quick entry before we descend to the bowels of this new hellscape… how to even process all that has happened?
Bjorn and I were able to connect on the tanker back to the mainland. I made the spear in my vision clearer to him, but given what has transpired recently, it seems that that is the furthest from his mind...despite the fact that it has the potential to solve so many of our current problems. When we finally made it back to our Voidship, we were immediately called to the bridge. There, in the captain's chair, was an odd metal doll. This doll became the crux of all sorts of chaos. Bjorn was dead set on speaking to Simon. This seemed to be the worst choice for a course of action to me. Talking to a Yu'Vath orb that had clearly dangerous side effects was foolhardy no matter the circumstances. When Chime was unavailable, I thought that was the end of it, but no! He insisted. Rasp and I both tried to talk him out of it....I find myself agreeing with him more lately and that is truly unnerving. Our efforts were in vain as our crew of officers made their way to the Orbiary. Simon pulsed there, an odd neon color. If Bjorn was truly going to be foolish enough to attempt this, I was ready to interfere with my own telepathy. No point in the captain losing his mind to this thing when I could take that fall. I’m less valuable here than he is… neither of us got to play at our communications, because in true Murk fashion, he did the unpredictable thing.
Somehow, through the shaking of the odd metallic doll, the Yu'Vath possessed Murk, Murk’s essence was placed into the doll, and the massive orb before us glowed red with rage. It screeched in binary. Chaos ensued as Rasp stormed off to kill Chime, Bjorn followed and I shifted focus to taking the doll from what I thought was Murk. I started to grow suspicious when Murk didn’t immediately just give me the doll...I mean, he does recognize that I have some authority here. The mental strain of the perils of the warp pulled at the edges of my consciousness while the screeching continued. My attempt to compel the orc body to hand it over went sideways. Suddenly, there is a tiny WAAAHG! That emanates from the doll as it reaches out and takes a grenade. This situation was quickly getting out of hand; thankfully, Stig woke into action and distracted the orc body enough for me to lift the doll from him. Sensing that the orc was there I convinced the tiny being to give me the menacing grenade before there was a more serious hole in the ship. It’s at this moment that Bjorn and Rasp return with Chime, clearly harried from a tussle, to see the scene unfolding in the Orbiary.
Isaac and I were able to combine our psychic abilities and right the possessed bodies to their proper places. I heave a sigh of relief and start to consider the serious implications of all that had just occurred. Handing the doll over to Rasp, I prepared to make my way back to the bridge and ready the crew for our next warp jump when captain spoke up asking Chime to make further contact with Simon. I was flabbergasted at this point. I truly attempted to dissuade and prevent further communications with the strange warp energy that was infiltrating all the parts of our ship. We’re working with a dangerous entity of a lost race that was deeply involved with Chaos. They served the warp... the warp that plagues my nights and makes our travel more difficult. The warp that trapped Bjorn for so long...the warp that takes more than it gives. After seeing the events unfold on Solace Encarmine, the level of corruption there, the desecration of a soul stone, the idea of uniting she who thirsts with our precious Isha...I cannot fathom the decisions that are being made here. An echo drifts through my mind, “It's not all on you Ani, it never was. Just do your job and we will get through this." with that, I leave them to this dangerous errand. I sought out Eve, but she was not to be found.
The men must have reached some agreement, because we zipped through the warp. I barely noted the transition, but the night terrors that reached me have created many a sleepless moment. I can’t help but teeter closer to the edge of distress. Chaos and she who thirsts are slipping ever closer. The path of the outcast is proving more dangerous than I previously thought possible. In my haste to escape the confines of my old life, I may have inadvertently caused waves I cannot fathom. I certainly have not been as disciplined lately in my self control. Emotion is clouding my judgment. I’m not sure how much longer I should attempt to deny my true role in the universe...the one my father saw for me. There is so much tying me here, but is it really the path I should be walking?
With all this weighing on me, we are about to embark on a journey to the center of Illisk...I wonder what fresh peril awaits.
