The Farthest Realms

The Far Realms, having stayed mostly out of the affairs of the Middle, Low, and High Realms, are not subject to the treaty that prohibits direct intervention. The denizens of the Far Realms, though, tend to be esoteric and alien, compared to the well-known entities of the Low and High Realms. They do occasionally take interest in mortals, though usually out of curiosity.

The Fair Folk

The Fair Folk dwell in the lands of Dream and Nightmare, dividing their courts along those lines. It is said that mortals touch the realms of Dream and Nightmare when they sleep. Most mortal encounters with the Fair Folk are thus made asleep. The two courts clash constantly for the minds of mortals, for their realms would not exist without them. Of the denizens of the Far Realms, the Fair Folk have the most contact with mortals.

Dream

The Fair Folk of the Dreaming Court are sustained and created by the dreams and desires of mortals. They take many forms and shapes as a result. They often carry messages through these dreams, acting as couriers for powerful, magic-using mortals who can treat with them for such a favor. While they consider themselves above and apart from the mortals who sustain their realm, they ultimately need mortals to continue dreaming. Some Fair Folk abduct mortals for sport, bringing them into the land of Dream. They are ruled by the Queen of Dreams, she who brooks no other title or form of address. The realm of Dream is idyllic, with expansive, sylvan forests, lush plains, tall mountains, and deep, blue oceans.

The Clever Fellow

A being of whimsy, curiosity, and trickery, a lover of pranks, a teacher of humility, the Clever Fellow is also a shapeshifter. No being has ever seen his true shape; it is not known if the Clever Fellow even has one.

Nightmare

The Fair Folk of the Nightmare Court, by contrast and opposition, thrive on the nightmares of mortals. This is a court of terrible monsters, formed from the worst fears of mortals given shape. Like the Dreaming Court, they, too, often truck with magic-using mortals, and are more likely than their Dreaming kin to spirit mortals away to induce the nightmares upon which they thrive. Of late, with the rise of the human warlord known as the Bloody Hand, the Nightmare Court has grown much stronger, beginning to eat away at the paradise that is the realm of Dream. The realm of Nightmare is every hellscape that mortals have imagined, and always the one feared most by mortal visitors. The Queen of Nightmare is said to take the shape of the worst fear of whoever beholds her.
