Nymphea

The Nymphea (and their woodier subtype Bambusa) mainly live on the Crystal Sea. A carefree, hardworking people, the Nymphea are perfectly at home in their tropical paradise. Most Nymphea are short and chubby, while the Bambusa trend taller. All Nymphea and Bambusa start as Nymphea, the environment they grow in once they sprout changing whether they develop into Bambusa or stay a Nymphea. The reigning deciding factor is based on available space: Nymphea sprouting on smaller islands tend to stay small, while those that sprout on larger ones tend to grow into Bambusa.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Nymphea are plantlike in origin, though with a strong epidermis to support a bipedal anatomy. They have softer joints that allow a wide range of movement, and often have leaves and flowers growing directly from their bodies.

Genetics and Reproduction

Nymphea reproduce through pollination through the flowers on top of their heads. Once pollinated, a single large seed grows on the flower. While it's usually rooted very securely, they often will re-wrap their fronds and petals up around it. The seedling will be "born" with fully functional, albeit weak limbs, and fully capable of scampering and climbing hours after sprouting.

Ecology and Habitats

The Nymphea are most comfortable in tropical, Oceanside environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Nymphea have fully functional omnivorous digestive systems, but as a rule don't eat fungi.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Nymphea have a matriarchal society. They are community oriented, and everyone pitches in to help out.

Facial characteristics

Nymphea typically have 5 facial leaves, although having as few as 3 is somewhat common. If they don't have the full 5 leaves, they typically have soft thorns sprouting from where the leaves would be.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Culture is similar to many Polynesian cultures.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Nymphea share the Crystal Sea with Selkies. The two species share the contient with few struggles, often having similar ideals, though a quiet, well-meaning jest of the Nymphea is that some Selkies need to calm down and have fun.

Rarely do I see plant-people outside of Guild wars 2. Kudos for making them something in your world (the plantfolk!) You mention they are similar to Polynesian cultures, how well can they fight? the first thing that comes to mind are the Maori. That is pretty interesting!

Thank you! I really love GW2's sylvari, so I was careful to make sure the Nymphea weren't just Sylvari 2.0. As for fighting, I imagine they're pretty good fighters! The Crystal Sea is large and often full of traders and travelers, which means some of them often become pirates, although I definitely plan on doing more research to ensure I do their inspirations justice.
