Ma'at

Ratfolk

The Ma'at are a race of rat folk that live in the Deepwoods along with the Dwarves. Visually they are reminiscent of both rats and ferrets. They're very clever, compassionate, and live in the moment. When they begin to think too far ahead, they tend to become overwhelmed with anxiety. Their companionship with the calm Dwarves has proven beneficial for both races. They also have a burning desire for experimentation, eager to help their longtime friends.   Many of their buildings are carved into the fossilized trees of the deepwoods.

Once a month, each Town comes together to all eat together in a singular location and celebrate. Outsiders who are friends with that Town or one of the families are always invited to stay for the celebration.

Common Myths and Legends

The first Ma'at was a farmer who lived alone in the Deepwoods. Sad because she was alone, she cried herself into a deep sleep, becoming a tree. All of her tears seeded the Earth and grew into more Ma'at, filling the Deepwoods so she would never be lonely again.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ma'at and the Dwarves have a close working relationship. They're often too shy to come above ground to meet the other races. When they do, they need special eyewear to protect their eyes from the light.
