Sir Io, Egglantine and The Minotaur

Sometimes considered to be the most legendary arena-based duel in the history of Luxor.     A truly legendary fight between two equally matched enemies.     But a legendary duel all the same.     It was a hot summer's day in the city of Luxor in Yesmos, and the hundred-thousand-plus arena was packed to maximum as the bystanders and patrons waited in the stands for the two opposing forces to step into the grand ring to fight to the death. It was a duel set between the legendary knight Sir Io, and the Luxor Arena's champion, a powerful Minotaur named Rirox, who up to that point had won over thirty duels in the arena.     But this duel would be his last.     But not from the power of Sir Io himself, but rather someone smaller and yet so much more powerful.     The duel started in the heat of the morning.     With over one-hundred-thousand spectators including the Pharaoh, his wife and Sir Io's band watching from the Pharaoh's private box, Rirox stepped into the arena to a mass of fanfare, standing opposite Sir Io and at the ready to destroy his latest enemy and to win his next duel.     And with a mighty explosion of power, the two sides clashed.     As the duel continued on, Rirox and Sir Io proved to be an almost perfect match for one another, and were at one another's throats at every single turn of the duel, drawing it on for what felt like an eternity as the sun rose higher and higher into the sky. Despite the length of the battle, the crowd remained enthralled and entranced at the two fighting sides as they beat and battered at one another for hours on end to try and find the edge that would allow them to take the win.     And if it hadn't been for intervention, Rirox certainly would have won.      In a particularly powerful surge of the duel, Rirox managed to overpower Io and almost tore him apart, breaking at least two of the knight's bones and throwing him halfway across the arena in a final attempt to kill him. But Egglantine, Sir Io's granddaughter, now overcome with emotion and desperate to save her grandfather, lept into the ring to the horror of her family, the crowd and even the Pharaoh, and confronted the minotaur all while protecting her grandfather. He tried to convince her to return, but she failed to do so.     This was where the battle became one-sided.     Egglantine was not just any normal member of her race. Her lineage had passed down a great power from her grandfather that had blessed them with abilities previously unknown to the world as well as supreme power that could be matched by none on earth. Taking no pause before unleashing her anger upon the mighty Rirox, she revealed just how powerful she had become and quickly matched and bested the minotaur for every single move he made, all without wielding a single weapon against him even as Rirox' club and blade threatened to tear her apart. It was during this final stage of the duel that Sir Io was recovered by his daughter and son-in-law with due permission from the Pharaoh, albeit with severe caution in the case that Rirox was to suddenly change targets and head for them instead. He never did, and was suddenly unable to take back the ground he had stolen from Io during their fight.     But one final push from his new opponent proved to be the last straw.     Egglantine was fighting with everything she had, and was putting all of her emotions, energy and strength into the duel as she backed Rirox into his side of the arena, not taking a single chance to give him the ground to win the fight. Her last energetic surge did the minotaur in, and out of nowhere she brandished her own personal weapon and charged against her foe. With nowhere to go and nothing to do, Rirox was finished, and Egglantine slaughtered the minotaur valiantly to the end with her weapons, coating the ground around her, the arena wall and a few unlucky bystanders with the blood of her slain enemy. She stood victorious, and the crowd albeit stunned by the performance and the cold-blooded slaughter they had witnessed, cheered for the victor who was now coated from head to talons in red blood. Rirox' legacy had come to an end, but the duel had been won once and for all, and Sir Io was free, as were his band and the granddaughter that he and his group had spent so long searching for through cities, towns, grasslands and deserts.      Egglantine and her family, and Sir Io soon thereafter returned home from the desert city, following only their involvement in a brief and bloody war that destroyed the city and their subsequent escape from Yesmos onboard a pirate-captained ship, the Black Rose. Afterwards, neither Egglantine, her family or Sir Io were never seen again.
