Se" Ocean
The Se" Ocean.
The Northern Ocean.
Whichever name you know it by, you will know that it is the northernmost ocean on the planet, but also one of the smallest. It borders between Usmor the northern continent and the continents of Rethium, Olgath, the Histian Empire and Ethlemthos, which guard the world from the dangers of the Se" Ocean.
This expanse is also known as The Black Ocean, for the fact that due to the cold weather, it is constantly ravaged by storms and cold fronts that come in from the continent that they guard at the top of the world. For this further reason, the ocean is also called The Eternal Storm, as even during the summer months the waves are choppy and white, and the currents are unstable and prone to shift over the course of days, throwing vessels off their course and prolonging their journey northwards to the shores of the continent of Usmor. This ocean holds between eighteen and twenty million square miles of space, with only the Saewaem Ocean standing behind it as the smallest open ocean on the planet.
Due to the nature of the explorations made to the northern continent, there are not many shipwrecks located on the ocean floor, but of those few dozen that can be found, most are located along the coast of the continent or even within the small ocean that sits between the continent's two islands. One of the most famous dual shipwrecks was found almost twenty years after they had sunk during a great storm, these being the wrecks of the freighters Earl Of Chatham and Padstow Bay, which were on-route to Aswary after a prolonged voyage to the northern continent following a scientific study in the north on ice formations and other natural formations by the onboard science teams, although many still challenge the validity of common freighters being sent rather than expert and chartered science vessels.
The two vessels had been within sight of one another for the first two days of the voyage until Padstow Bay fell behind due to a swell that had trapped them behind Chatham, and it wasn't until a few hours later that the Chatham turned back following prolonged radio silence from Padstow. The Chatham was ill-prepared and also sunk after venturing into the swell, and the two wrecks were not discovered sunk and broken until almost twenty years later, having taken the hundreds of crew members down to the bottom along with them. The two vessels are still considered to be amongst the worst recorded, also being noted as two of the worst maritime shipwrecks during an age of world peace, not being caused by unrest or challenge between nations but rather the weather that challenged those nations in their times of peace.
The Se" Ocean is described as being ring-like or circular in shape, spanning the width of the planet between Usmor and all known continents to the southward, which does bring some unrest as to the true categorization of the ocean as a formation, although many have peacefully settled on it being known as an ocean for it's size and volume of water.
