Elf
Languages
Elven languages are distinct, since they are so separate from each other. They share the same roots, like German and English, so sentence structure is the same, but their vocabulary is vastly different. Elven languages rarely ever incorporate new slang, and the languages are very stagnant. This can be attributed to their long and sometimes immortal lifespans, where the only need for new words is when something new and important enough for a word comes along. --- Elves- Seen as a slothful people to humans sometimes, due to how they perceive time as immortals.
- Nerigwyn is not exempt from this and often is in no hurry, to the detriment of the party.
- The crystal elves are not used to such time dependent problems since the Shattering, so it takes them a while to heed the warnings of the Prism and get curing their goddess.
- Some of their superiority complex comes due to watching entire empires rise and make the same mistakes as fallen ones once did.
Elven Immortality
Once a boon that all elves shared is now all but lost in most elven races. Crystal Elves- Functionally immortal and free from disease thanks to their living goddess Æduræ. This is threatened by the Spirithost King Dalton III in Strands of Silver Book 1
- The only immortal wood elves are those of Galaenathyr. Khanna’s divine miasma still permeates the wood and sustains them after 1000 years. If one were to leave the wood, they would begin aging.
- Other wood elf tribes of the many forests in the world have extended lifespans still, around 150 years, but are not immortal.
- The one small but notable exception to this is the Dre’veth’sa clan in the Gestaltian Forest. They are under a magical illusion brought upon by a powerful Druid that has lived since the Godswar. This illusion is everlasting once casted by the Druid, and even allows them to leave the forest. It is extremely rare for one to do so, though, seeing as the Druid is very mindful that leaving means loss of the Gift (immortality). In truth, the effect ends from spending too much time around humans or other short lived races due to their perception of time changing drastically if exposed for too long. The spell also depends on the casters survival.
- The dark elves have limited lifespans around 150 years like their wood elf cousins, but are on a quest to restore their immortality through technological advancement. Perhaps they can emulate their dead god’s powers through steel and oil.
