Rei

Rei, is a world based on Japanese culture, mythology and folklore. Even though during a certain period a lot of charcters are based on historical figures from the "Sengoku" period, theire exact details and relationships are changed and sometimes almost entirely different from the originals. The world that these people live in however is 100 percent original and the main continent has the approximate size of Africa.     In order to understand this world and the people/cultures in it, the most notable and important thing to know is the supernatural element, called "Sonzai". The sonzai is present in everything that makes up this world. It is in every person, animal, tree and rock, in every gust of wind and every ray of light, it effects everybody, be it someone that has studied it for a long time, or someone that has been completely oblivious to it. "Sonzai" is utalised through the art of "Reido" and doesn't have any inherent effects on anything, but instead relies on connecting and imposing things, consepts and attributes   Another aspect that greatly influences the people of rei, is religion. Between about half and a full dozen big religions exist, most of them see "sonzai" as a key to solve lifes mysteries. Besides them there are about 100-200 different smaler sects and cults all over the continent.   Besides humans there are plenty of other creatures such as yokai, creatures that previously in theire lives or in previous generations were something else, but through "sonzai" they gained new charcteristics and attributes. Or the yurei, which live in the most eastern part of the continent and are spirits of unknown origin.
