Scroll

A way of casting magic. Scrolls are the poor man's way of magic casting, but do require some skill to use. The exact science behind them is uncertain, but by casting mana into the scroll, the effects of the scroll are revealed, and used instantly. Some scrolls have multiple uses, while others have just one. The way a scroll is made, however, is a procedure passed down from scrollweaver to apprentice. While it is a very intricate procedure, and each spell weaved is unique, the basic principle is roughly the same.

1. Figure out which spell you want to weave, and acquire materials
2. Make some paper, but only about halfway. You still need it to be pulpy and absorbent
3. Cast the spell onto the paper, but only to the point of the mana transferring outward (and thus onto the paper), stopping just before the spell is actually cast. This is the most difficult step
4. Finish and dry paper

The amount of mana that is transferred into the paper affects the strength of the spell, and the number of uses the scroll has. For example, if only a slight amount of mana is transferred onto an enflame scroll, the result would be a rather impotent grouping of cinders or sparks. A really well made scroll is therefore very difficult to make, and possibly dangerous, depending on the scroll. Less dangerous scrolls are often seen as less valuable, due to their ease of creation. The scroll is, at least on the exterior, a piece of paper, nothing much special. You can write and draw on it, burn it, even rip it to shreds. The latter two can cause the spell to activate immediately, although it is not always the case. Due to the creation process, scrolls aren't always advertised as they actually are. It may be illegal in the Lumine Kingdom, but that doesn't stop some shady salesmen from selling some anyway.
