human-Nanite hybrid

Hybrids between humans and Nanites; only three exist, at least that Red Sky mentions. These beings are largely indistinguishable from Nanites except that their self-preservation instinct is just a little bit higher than a human's; not nearly enough to keep them from rational thinking. They retain claws, tails, fangs, and all Nanite physiology -- in Song's and Malaise's case. In Elie's, he is only able to call out his claws, tail, fangs, and other parts with intense concentration.
Malaise and Song are nearly identical to actual Nanites in all areas except their self-preservation instinct; Elie is more of an actual hybrid between human and Nanite, as his skin isn't quite as diamond-hard as Nanites', his physical weaponry is difficult to call out, and he doesn't suffer from a thirst for blood (though he finds it much more satisfying to lick at a bloody wound than he should).
All three human-Nanite hybrids were experiments -- in Song's case, perfectly successful apart from self-preservation instinct; in Malaise's case, an attempt to see if Nanites could heal things like paraplegic injuries by being fused with humans (which failed immensely in Elie's case, somewhat successful due to the unforeseen physical side effects that Elie gained even after Elikai left his body.
