The Lost Factions

The majority of these factions existed on the fringe of society and practiced dark crafts. Nearly a millennia ago, most of the of the Lost Factions were outlawed.
There was a brief period of time where The Lost Factions were more clearly delineated between The Forbidden Factions and The Forgotten Factions. As time progressed, the delineation began to blur, and the terms were similar enough that they became synonymous to all but the scholars. For a time. Now, even scholars have difficulty separating fact from romanticized history.
The Forgotten Factions comprised a much smaller number of The Lost Factions. These factions were small in number and status- already on the brink of extinction. They were absorbed into the mythos of The Forbidden Factions largely because they were unknown entities and easily grouped in with them.
Generally speaking, The Forbidden Factions were practitioners of vile and repugnant arts. Many of the less committed turned from their factions and were reincorporated into society; however, the most radicalized fled to the uncharted planets. In many ways, the culling honed their dark crafts in ways that otherwise would never have come to pass.
