Personal history

Lykos Was left at an institution as an infant for those who worship Torm, the chivalrous and heroic deity. He was treated with extreme respect within the institution from this young age as he was recognised as an Aasimar, a celestial being born to serve as the champion of a God or divine being. They treated him almost as royalty, and he became accustomed to such treatment, therefore growing a slightly inflated sense of self-worth and importance. The Institution was slightly akin to a cult in its intense worship of Torm, the members dedicating their lives entirely to his worship. It was a fairly militant organisation, as they swore to destroy evil and those who worship Cyric and Bane. His life led up to the point at which he hit puberty, at which point the Institution intended to conduct a ritual creating a link between his soul and Torm, establishing him as a Protector Aasimar. This link would have meant that in dreams, Lykos would have been provided guidance by Torm in the form of visions, prophecies and feelings. The Institution wished to conduct the ritual to use Lykos, as the only Aasimar within the organisation, as their direct point of contact with Torm. Unfortunately, the organisation was incorrect in their assumption that his race was that of a pure Aasimar - his grandfather was human, tainting the pure bloodline. The ritual they had devised only functions correctly on pure-blooded Aasimar. In the final step of the ritual, in which a burning brand stamped the symbol of a sword in the shape of a cross against the back of his neck, a broken link was formed between himself and Torm. A scalding light poured from his eyes and mouth, setting alight the ritual room and charring his eyes and mouth. Disgusted by his hellish reaction and the failed bond, they cast the 13 year old out from the Institution. His high self worth and importance, along with his life of luxury, shattered before him.   Spent 10 years living in a forest he stumbled upon after his exile from the Institution. Around a year into living from the wildlife in the forest, he was found by a Firbolg man named Bryn. Taking pity on the malnourished child, who had barely survived due to his lack of knowledge relating to nature, he picked up the child and took him deep into the forest, where he lived with a small tribe of Firbolg. He learnt sustainable living from the forest, the creatures teaching him about the medicinal and nourishing properties of various plants. He stopped eating meat, adopting a vegetarian lifestyle. The tribe consisted of rangers and druids, and he was taught many of these abilities, becoming proficient in magic. He was quickly adopted into the tribe and treated as one of their own.   After 9 years of being integrated with the tribe, an attack occurred. Up until this point, Lykos had encountered no other beings than the Firbolgs and denizens of the forest. However, they were aware that their habitat in the centre of the forest was slowly being encroached upon by various civilisations expanding their boundaries through deforestation and building. At this point, a large army of undead raided the forest under the knowledge that an Aasimar with a link to Torm was residing there. As followers of Bane, they entered in an attempt to kill him, with a disregard to their surroundings as they did so. The Firbolgs were quick to join in and defend Lykos. The battle continued for some time, but at the sight of Bryn’s body falling Lykos snapped. The link between his soul and Torm’s flared up, his corrupted link causing the burning light to pour from his eyes and mouth. Due to the 10 years spent suppressing this link, its power far surpassed its usual level. Though he succeeded in eliminating the army of undead, not a Firbolg remained afterwards. Also, the intense radiant energy from the burning light cleared out a large 40 foot circle of the forest, leaving in its wake burnt and dead plants. An extreme guilt manifested in him in response to this event. Unable to bear the blame for the destruction of the nature he cared so much for and the death of the whole tribe which he considered family, he began to project the blame for this event onto others, becoming spiteful and vengeful to mask his deep-rooted guilt. Part of this spite was directed to the undead and followers of Bane. He also partially blames the expanding societies on the army's ability to discover their location, therefore loathing civilisation and viewing nature as more important than civilisation. He prefers the company of creatures than civilisations, and views injury to wildlife and nature as injury to himself. He is quick to respond violently to those who harm wildlife.
