Sundown Estate

The Sundown Estate consists of the lands owned and managed by the Sundown family.

Purpose / Function

The Sundown Estate includes a large domestic private mansion of the Sundown family, as well as many greenhouses which are used for the cultivation of exotic plant species. The trade secrets of gardening many dangerous difficult to cultivate plants are closely guarded, and the majority of the staff live on the grounds in fairly comfortable quarters.

Defenses

The Sundown Estate has no need for manned guards as they have strategically placed their most dangerous plant species near the peripheral walls, conveniently offputting any potential infiltrators.

History

The Sundown Estate was founded by Baja Sundown, a quiet, introverted woman who lived on the edge of (previously undeveloped) Palimpay outskirts with her family. She loved running through the forest and collecting samples of strange plants for her personal collection. Over time, she developed quite a talent for cultivation and was able to both find and cultivate rare and valuable plants. She was a prodigious notetaker who documented all of her findings extremely well. Eventually she discovered that she could sell the products of her efforts for great sums, since the difficulty of foraging most of her specimens was quite high. She began to become quite wealthy selling as a pharmaceutical supplier, and of course plants for household decoration as well (though this is by no means the bulk of their income). The empire she built over her long lifetime was passed down to her descendants who have learned her trade secrets. Despite being introverted, Baja was quite business savvy and bought many of the surrounding vacant areas to develop her estate, having a massive mansion built with greenhouses and gardens and the works.
Currently, the estate is operated by Teki'La Sundown, the current matriarch. Currently, she has been managing several stressors on the family. Her own mother retired young, passing the estate to her earlier than expected. Her mother's last year as matriarch was incredibly stressful, pulling her already perilous health downwards. The main stressor was the discovery of the Kuiblight in Kuil Kokoran, 6 years before present day. Since Teki'La took over, she has been avidly researching the blight, but in secret, with the aid of her staff. This was not too difficult as the Sundown Estate already has a culture of secrecy to protect their gardening trade secrets. She worries that the knowledge of this blight could be weaponized - not just by her business competitors, but by nations and other warring factions in the world. In addition, two years ago, Saz Erak arrived at the Sundown Estate, an envoy from Ziguora. Despite Saz living at the Sundown Estate and having nearly full access to the Estate, she has managed to keep Saz away from the knowledge of the blight and associated research through a combination of distraction and redirection, even taking up an affair with Saz which could have resulted in her child's birth (questionable fatherhood).

Tourism

An area near the entrance of the Estate is designated for tourist activity. It includes a magnificent greenhouse and gardens for public exploration. There is no entrance fee but of course there are plants for sale and souvenirs and the like.
