Draeconians
The Dragonborn are a scattered people and have been for millennia. Previous to the War of the Dragons against the giants some 3,000 years ago, the dragonborn were a great and powerful race of expansive knowledge, power, and prestige. They came from the blood of Io himself, they said, the Primordial Dragon that fought and was killed by an entity of primordial darkness at the foundation of the world. The darkness clove Io in two, shedding his blood across the planes. While the Darkness thought his foe defeated, the two halves rose up as Io’s twinborn children, Bahamut and Tiamat. Together, they were greater than their father and together they defeated the Darkness. The dragonborn rose from Io’s blood and with their might carved out empires across the Material Plane.
Then came the dragons war against the giants. The two races’ gods went to war with each other, and so did their peoples. The giants saw that the draeconians were too much like their dragon kin, and the dragons used them as soldiers or cannon fodder against the giants. Their mighty empires were broken and ruined, and the draeconians became race of wandering refugees. Scattered. Divided. Leaderless.
Some enclaves of metallic Dragonborn still find refuge in cities across the planes, where their natural inclination towards forms of art and storytelling often make them revered craftsmen. Chromatic dragonborn, on the other hand, are always thought to be the evil spawn of Tiamat and are rarely allowed in close proximity to civilized lands.
On the continent of Iuturel, few dragonborn remain in the Surane Empire since the Protectorate of Vaazmaarshaan was formed. Dragonborn were thought to be spies and traitors, and were cast out of home and settlements. Many relocated to the Protectorate.
