The Story of Baelar and Farron

A story of homecoming.

Where Did Baelar & Farron Go?

They were fools to end up there. Silly fools who tested his luck with things he didn't understand. They were led there by a will o' wisp, so surely it had something to show. He and his friend Baelar went deep into the woods at night, and waited in a faerie circle until the inevitable happened. Their presence summoned a witch. They were encircled, and trapped. And the witch cast her hand, and then they saw blackness of the eternal night's sky.   And it never faded. In time, the two realized that they were not dead. In fact, they were perfectly alive, yet in a place they did not expect: they were on The Moon. They were in a massive tower, in a massive castle of obsidian, looking upon a grey, desolate landscape in all directions, with their home - the planet - high above.
With no other options, Baelar and Farron set about to looking for a method home. Their position was high aloft, in the highest tower of what seemed to be a large castle. Jumping was not an option, and would result in death, and any collected rope or supplies could not ease a descent. Breaking out seemed troublesome, as the door that contained them was mighty. With time, however, Baelar's raw strength was able to beat down the door, allowing them access to the rest of the building. The cooridors wound around, long and ominous, and many frightful monsters lurked within. With skill, grace, and caution, they fought their way through, first to the foyer where the doors and windows were barred to this ruined prison of a palace. Then, their adventure led them into the ruin's depth, a sprawling labyrinthine where each moment was a struggle for survival.   There, in the bottom of this ruin, was a massive door. A magical panel stood in the center of this room, with only a skeleton of a would-be adventurer standing before it, mauled by a massive wyrmling that hid amidst the ceiling. After defeating the horrible foe, Farron located a key near the skeleton, jammed into the panel. In trying to remove the key from the panel, the key turned, and the door opened, but the key was now in their possession. Farron decided to explore the room beyond, much to Baelar's consternation. It is terrifyingly dark and massive, as if built by titans themselves. Winding around a corner, he finds a terrible discovery: a massive shadow beast they had never seen before. Inspecting it, they realized that it was gazing upon him as well. It began to move, attempting some form of language as it approached. Fearful, the duo retreated, hearing the agonizing scream of the beast. Looking back into the darkness, they saw the stirring of many more beasts.   Farron and Baelar found their way out of the labyrinth, back to the palace on the moon, and used the key on the doorway. The desolate landscape extended before them, and they had no intention of finding out what lurked behind them. They hurried away from the strange prison that had been their home.   The duo wandered for awhile in a desert of grey and black. Monsters of gargantuan size roamed freely on this terrible plane, and the few villages of settlers he found were strange. Every person here seemed humanoid, but in a sorrowful, pale way, just as the world around them. These people seemed gloomy, and feared Baelar and Farron as outsiders. They nevertheless won them over, eventually befriending some of them, asking them how to get home. The people spoke of concepts that only Baelar and Farron understood: that the beautiful world above was Paradise, and it was foretold that the gods of this land - known as Eidolons - would one day awaken, and thus lead the people of Luna to the promised land above.   But they also warned of the coming destruction that would unveil upon their world when that time had come, Ragnarok: the gods of Eternia will be confronted by the Eidolons, given strength by the Heroes of Paradise. When the gods are Eternia are at their weakest, the Eidolons will be let loose, and the storms of Luna will implode their home, sending all the contents to their paradise above.

Exploring Luna and Monstrosities

Shadowfell City
Baelar and Farron were told of the capital of this strange shadow-fallen land, a city known as Gloomwrought. The two ventured to this metropolis, one that was strange and filled with all manner of wyld beings: eerie, shadowy reflections of humans, halflings, and dwarves; cruel tieflings who wielded power unimaginable back on Earth, and many of the Shadar-Kai, despondent and uncaring beings who resided throughout this land as the majority race, among other ghasts, vampires, ghouls, and undead beings which called this city home.   Not all were strangers, however. Farron and Baelar came upon several others from the material world, who had been trapped here in various ploys by wyld magic fiends. Collecting together, Farron, Baelar, and their friends built up their renown in this alien world.   But their time together was not to be happy. Despite succeeding in their adventures, monsters became more numerous over time. Where a tarrasques wandering outside the capital, rampaging on the outskirts, might have been a time of terror for some, herds of tarrasques became frequent sights. Beholders and their ilk began forming kingdoms, and warring amongst themselves. Evil devils began to found cities of lesser demons and form kingdoms throughout the land, killing indiscriminately.   This was the time of Ragnarok, as the people of this land had predicted. The world was soon to end, and as the floods of monsters began to build over time, the mountains themselves began to bleed in rivers of blood. This formed massive lakes, and then oceans, of iron-tinged blood to seep across the landscape, consuming everything in its path, turning the society into a blood-sea faring nation. Gloomwrought held firm, calling all able adventurers to defend the ranks. But nothing could defend against what was to come...

Ragnarok and The Gloom

The Gloom cover
Farron and Baelar feared for what they saw. As Ragnarok continued its world-ending plans, The Gloom descended. These beings were shadow-like, fast moving, and terrifically strong. Some were intelligent, but others were raw and animalistic. And the duo had seen them. They were the beings that had been unlocked from the depths of the ruin palatial ruin he found himself in so long ago. They were everywhere, and if not for the armies of the Mindflayers, Gloomwrought would never have survived.   But nothing could last. As the tide of blood increased, the streets became flooded in claret red ooze. The Gloom spawned out of the muck, assailing everyone around. In a last ditch effort, Farron, Baelar, and those adventurers that remained retreated within the Deathless Palace. As tarrasques stampeded upon the city gates, and the blood continued to rise, people fled to the highest towers, fighting The Gloom all the way.   Without warning, the earth began to shake. The Heroes of Paradise had won. A great light was seen, and the Eidolons streaked across the sky, formed truly upon this world. As the castle imploded around Farron and Baelar, it began to rise upon the current of blood that seemed to rise from the ground itself. Soon, Farron and Baelar found himself swirling in the ocean of blood with all manner of demons, Gloom Walkers, mindflayers, shadar-kai, and other residents of Luna. Looking back upon Luna, as they sailed high into the air on this river of blood - The Moon's Cry - they saw Luna implode, releasing its most powerful Eidolons.

Present

Ocean of Blood
Baelar and Farron find themselves in a sea of red, completely drenched in blood. Gloom Walkers instantly attack him before he can even have his wits. In slaying this beast, they saw a dark sky blanketed with a shimmering, green shield of energy. Blood continues to pour from the heavens, as the remnants of Luna hang in the sky, degrading, massive meteorites falling to earth with streaks of fire. The grass under his feet is drenched in the same blood as the old Moon, giving everything an ugly, shiny red hue above the green plantlife and brown soil.   But the duo know this place. They saw the city in ruins several miles away, drowned in blood, with a single mage's tower soaring above the ruined harbor. This is Port Isadore, in Bohemia, from the home they left so long ago. They were home. Seeing the state of things, the two decide to seek out their friends in The Watch, back in Galena. From there, they is told that his friends still live, and are now in the capital. They venture forth as fast as they can to find them, to join in their quest to save what is left.
