Session 8 (LW)

Cresting the Verge

General Summary

Late in the night on the outskirts of the Sea of Trees, the party gathered together with the druids to be led to where their master lied. This famed archdruid, said to by from the feywild itself, was out of his wits and needed aid so that he could better negotiate with the forest beings here and prevent a full conflict with the nearby village. The druids led them to the clearing where he was, and they slowly approached.   The archdruid seemed to be perturbed in some way, in a depressive state. They attempted to approach him while Ren attempted to subdue him from behind, but he was alerted to Ren's presence in the ice and snow, and became hostile. All attempts at reason failed, and a combat ensued. In time, however, he was bested, and brought back to sanity.   The man, who announced himself as Ysh'Ravighn - an Eladrin of the feywild - was brought back to his wits, and spoke of what little he remembered of the situation. It seems that despite his best efforts and natural resistances, he was charmed by something of the wilds, and he lacked all memory of his incidents after-which. After being informed of how bad the situation had continued in his mental absence, he called forth the forest beings and did his best to negotiate with them.   It was eventually agreed upon that the village should harvest wood from further away for the remainder of the winter, despite the difficulty that would come with this. As a result, the fey beings would leave the village alone. The fey beings thusly left the party's presence. Ysh'Ravighn thanked the party, and asked them that if they ever met his brother Ysh'Davigion, asked them to speak with him.   The group ventured off to their next rumoured troublesome destination, a small town on the coastline. They sought out the townspeople for a mage, and they quickly pointed them in the direction of a stranger camping out along the coastline. He introduced himself as Linus Vogelstein III, an elf from Opalesce. He had a condundrum that only proper adventurers could solve: his tower had been overrun by water elementals. He wanted his spellbooks recovered from his magical tower, and the group decided to aid him in exchange for some money.   On their way out to the tower in Linus' boat, they encountered a terrible sight on the seas: a dragon! It attempted to attack them and prevent them from reaching the tower, but they fortunately had water walking enabled. They attempted to use magic to speak to the being, begging it for mercy and aid. It acquiesced, and invited them to its cave nearby.   At the cave, the dragon named itself as Rizor, and claimed that it was involved with Linus' interesting endeavours. It warned of a foul item trapped within the tower, being experimented with by Linus as well as the new residents of the tower, who Rizor claimed were brought there by a horrid kraken that lurked off the shore in search of the gem, which he noted as the Tempest of the Sea. The group decided instead of aiding Linus, they would instead prioritize Rizor's request, gathering the gem so he could properly dispose of it.   Venturing to the tower on Rizor's back, they were aided in combat as the dragon laid down righteous fury upon the monsters on the beachhead. Traveling within the tower itself, they quickly came upon strange, tentacled humanoids. Combat began, and soon thereafter they were vanquished. Water seemed to be streaming form the space as if by a spring, and they found themselves looking upon a fantastic gemstone which was no doubt the artefact in question. They gathered this, and the spellbooks, and readied themselves to leave.
