Episode 9

General Summary

Delving further into the treacherous ruin that they have been led to, the team - alongside Oxton, Elúra, Kemuri, and Skadi - all venture into the depths beneath the large cathedral they came upon. There, upon a massive, cavernous ruin, they find their way cut short by uneasy bridges obstructing their path. Through sheer force of will and skill, the team scaled the platforms in the best way possible. They were then confronted by a strange wall, identified as a Prismatic Wall, which would be unwise to pass through.   After no more than a moment of contemplation, a massive Sphinx appeared. This majestic creature beckoned them to solve a puzzle to pass through as its only task, and if they accepted and were unwilling to solve it, were threatened with death. The team found that the panels beneath them lit up in a certain order. With clever detective work upon several nearby skeletons supplies, they were able to discover alchemical runes. Elúra's knowledge of alchemy started them on a task, and in time, the entire team supported the group in passing the trial, and the wall was felled.   The group was next led to another gargantuan room. A barred gateway blocked their path. Miraculously, Jack was able to press his way through, into the next room. Meanwhile, the rest of the group explored the various antechambers of this temple to learn how to unlock the great room. A statue stood in the way of Garroth and Korva, written in a strange dialect that neither knew. With quick thinking, Korva cast his comprehend langauges spell, and was able to interpret the puzzle, bowing to the kneeling statue in reverance, and setting off a lock in the next room.   Jack's exploration of the larger foyer showed a number of things. The ceiling here was very tall, beyond the distance of his vision. Several unlit torches remained, which he took the time to light. There seemed to be several stone slabs in the walls at various locations upon an ascending spiral staircase. Doors, or tombs, he could not tell. In the center of the room was a door, which Oxton noted was her inevitable destination. There was also a curiously large circle that seemed to occupy the majority of the foyer...   The rest of the group explored the second antechamber. Here was a combination of levers and heavy, swiveling gears. Deducing these were meant to be turned, but realizing the switches were likely trapped, the group attempted to brute force the gears to no avail. A small plaque dictated that the air would be swept out of the room should they activate the trap, and it was also noted strange goo was leaking from the ceiling. The group pulled the leavers. As noted, the air began to become reduced, but as Maul broke down the door, this trap was avoided. Unfortunately, the mechanisms that would steal away the air dropped out large, toxic oozes throughout the hall from their lairs, all of which began to try to devour the group.   After a fevered battle that brought down many in the group, everyone was revived, and Jack erected a magical hut for the group to gain their wits again.
