Episode 14

String Theory

General Summary

With an agreement set into motion, the party decides that they are willing to aid the illustrious Vale Academy in their deeds. The party's first goal is to secure a band of ill begotten individuals from the academy who left in order to practice their foul magics. As former representatives of Vale Academy, the Academy seeks them to be punished to save their reputation. The group agrees to find this troupe of cultists and bring them back alive if possible.   Before leaving the academy, two things are learned. Firstly, Garroth learns that - despite his amnesia - he has a friend at Vale, the one Belesarius who they had been speaking to, and who works as an aid at the university. Belisarius attempts to bond with Garroth, except Garroth's lack of memory prevents this. Overcome with happiness for learning something about his past however, Garroth is overjoyed, and promises further discussions with Belisarius upon their return.   Meanwhile, Korva is overcome with a vision of a string wrapped around Belisarius himself, and the Raven Queen speaks curiously of this strange fool. He is not commanded to kill just yet, and instead is told to keep an open eye on this man, and be patient.   Traveling to the northwest, near The Marrows, the party finds a cliffside. As Korva provides reconnaissance in bird form, he sees that indeed a small group of shady individuals seem to be camping out where they were last seen. The group decides to approach at night so they can take the upperhand, when they are confronted by a stranger upon the road. He seems to be a former cultist, who wants nothing more to do with the individuals. He warns of traps on the road, and hopes for resolution upon the night. Meanwhile, Korva is cursed by the chatter in his head from the foul god Hazard, who seems to dislike this stranger. To further pester Korva, Hazard activates a trap among the hillside as they continue to the cultist camp, creating a small avalanche of rocks.   Jack uses this as his distraction. As the loud noise of boulders alerts the cultists, they find Jack - feigning injury - among the tumbled rocks. They take him patiently to the top of the hillside, no doubt feigning their own care. The rest of the group takes positions around the camp as best they can. But sure enough, the cultists attempt to coerce him through magic. He is able to resist, and the battle ensues.   In the end, the Necromancer is subdued by the group, despite many undead being erected by his cruel magics, including that of his former friends in arms. The Necromancer is bound by Maul, and seems to know something about Garroth, although what, it can't be told, as his lips remain sealed. The party adventures back to Vale Academy with their new hostage in tow.
