Episode 11
General Summary
Succeeding in the depths of the Pyreheart Sanctum, the party along with Oxton and her accompaniment vacated the ruins. They traveled back to the east. In Verazano, the small town they had passed through before, they encountered a large crowd that was being kept from wandering freely. It seemed that royal guards for the army of the Holy Empire were blockading the road as Princess Gavia Caldus was passing through in her wagon. She was heralded as she passed, and the guards protected her vigilantly, before marching out after her. The group paid this little mind, and moved along on their way.
The group passed beyond the border between the Holy Empire and the Ruby Kingdoms without incident, and traversed back through Derbent and into Beryl, to Korva's home of Asteris. At the Pineguard estate, they were greeted by Granite, who led them into the sitting room. Here, they once again encountered the servant of The Road, Syndra, who beckoned to see Oxton. Having seen her, she took great interest, and seeing that the quest was completed, held her end of the bargain and presented Korva the deed to his estate. Having this settled, she wished to parlay with Oxton's group. Skadi was suspicious, and hung behind deliberately with Maul, questioning everything.
As Jack attempted to wander the house, and maybe learn more, he was ambushed by assassins, who dropped in from the rafters and were awaiting anyone to follow their leader Syndra. The group, taken by surprise, rushed in to help and quickly defeated them. Running into the next room, they found Syndra and her posse attempting to assail Oxton and her cohorts. The party intervened, saving Oxton through cunning use of charming spells.
Tricking Syndra into paying attention, she was forcibly made to reveal her secrets. She worked for The Road, and their main base of operation in the area was located in the capital of Odessa. The group apparently sought Oxton's eyes, as they are blessed by a god. After revealing any relevant information the group could think of, she was made to go downstairs into the dungeons of the Pineguard Estate. Questioning what the group should do, they decided that Oxton should stay safe, but that having them think she is alive would be unwise for her own safety. They instead attempted to deceive Syndra into her believing that they had killed Oxton and her gang. In the meantime, they drew a pair of similar eyes from one of the dead assassins, and put them in embalming fluid.
Although Syndra tried to beguile the group by turning invisible in the cell, Jack was not fooled, and her magic ploy was discovered. She was eventually presented with the jar of eyes, and lied to that they were Oxton's. Surprised, she was let free, and examined them herself. She seemed convinced, and were happy that the group had a change of heart. She became honest with them, and answered further questions, before making her way out of her own accord with the false eyes.
Meanwhile, Oxton and her group were instructed to remain in the manor for several more days, lying low so that they would not raise suspicion, in case the house was still under watch by The Road. Their group insisted they would leave soon thereafter, seeking out another temple to the southeast in the dangerous wildlands of Feralis. The group set off from the Pineguard Estate, heading back toward Odessa to reunite with their burgeoning circus.
