Deidra

Come together, children. Take in the cold waters of the stream, and find shade to rest your mind and bones. Feel the cool breeze, and take it in with a full breath. Be at peace, for that is why we all are here on this day.   We must not fret over words said, or how the times have changed. Mistakes were made, and decisions have thrust us into aggressing upon one another. So it is time we cease those hostilities. Let us not be defined by our reaction to our mistakes, but rather define ourselves by our sensible nature and amicability.   It is why we are gathered here, amongst nature, where we all descend from. A place that casts no judgement upon us. We are but skin and bone surrounded by grass, trees, and the sky and stars above.   So let us be defined by this, our real selves, and our real words. Let us be defined by what we wish for ourselves, what we wish of our best selves, and whom we wish to be in the future. Let us define our own world, and write our own futures in the light of the sun above. Let us mark this union, and hopefully many more unions of all shapes and manners to come. For we, on this day, can change history, if we only insist it is peace that we truly want.

Holidays

Festival of Lights: The Draconic gods are seen as being generally outside the realm of others gods, as the dragons themselves are creatures rather than traditionally ascended beings. And as the draconic gods are not bound to Rakuen itself, a week is given to all the gods. The Festival of Lights is generally on the final two week of the year, culminating in the the Solar New Year, punctuated by various occasions throughout.
  • The Advent: On the first day of the Festival of Lights, adherents begin a fasting for the day, and upon dinner time when their fast breaks, bring out a candelabrum. This is used for religious observance, where every night, prayers are said at the lighting of a candle for the passage of time. Eight candles are used as part of the candelabrum, with for representing the four legs of Haumea, and four representing the dragons Bahamut, Tiamat, Deidra, and Adramalech.
  • Starlight: Generally throughout the proceedings of the Festival of Lights, decorations will be made throughout communities, including wreaths, decorative ribbons of red and green, and most importantly, candles, lanterns, and lamps. Starlight is the most popular event for decoration though, as it is usually a community event. In smaller communities, roadways and the doorways of houses are lined with candles, and families travel through the lights at night, singing various carols to one another as groups. Larger communities can get quite advanced with decorations, including more candles, stained glass for lamps to produce different colored lights, and large displays in public places.
  • The Nativity: A day of worship for the god of all dragons, Alexander, who was created by the divine might of the other draconic gods. This day is generally celebrated as a day of family and gathering. It is largely somber and subdued, and meant to be a night spent with those that matter most to you. Traditions include the completion of the candelabrum, homecooked meals, games, and the sharing of beds between family.
  • Noel: Noel is the day immediately after The Nativity, celebrating the birth and ascension of Alexander. This is a day of gift giving, and of appreciating those closest to you. Handcrafted gifts or personal gifts are most prominent, with items such as toys, clothing, and pottery, although silverware, glassware, and jewelry are also very popular gifts. The day emphasizes children in the morning, celebrating their youth, before devolving into raucous feasting and partying to celebrate adults. Large dinners late at night as well as various alcohols.
  • Solar New Year: In the days after Noel, the celebrations do not stop. The day after Noel is a public day of feast. There is usually a religious parade featuring small statues of the draconic gods, with emphasis to Alexander, followed by a community feast where everyone shares. Afterwards, partying is encouraged throughout, and no business is allowed to be conducted. Heavy drinking throughout the day was a particularly popular activity. Another was the election of the Dragon King, where each family would elect someone else in their family to be head of household, usually someone of lower status such as a child or slave, who would be allowed to order others around within reason. The event concluded with a celebration on New Years at around midnight, where the community would count down the last day of the year in unison.

Personal history

Deidra is the Left Leg of Haumea, and the goddess of Peace, Union, and Truth. Unquestionably the least stubborn of the draconic deities, Deidra is renowned for her appraisal of togetherness. Deidra is most closely bonded with Rakuen itself, said to be a dragon of nature, residing deep in the darkest forests, and welcoming of all animals, especially mortal humanoids. She encourages all who disagree to spark concession between one another, for the sake of the greater whole. She also practices this same mentality, frequently attempting to unify the extreme elements of her draconic family.   Deidra is most popular among leaders and people of statecraft, and is frequently praised by orators for her guidance of calm and rejection of anxieties. Bards in particularly value her open attitude, and clerics and priests call upon her often, particularly for sermons or marriages. Marriages are a frequent time to call upon Dedira's guidance. Beyond Dragonborn and Dwarves, who are most frequently associated with dragon gods, Deidra is worshiped primarily by elves, gnomes, and halflings, who all value her more naturalistic qualities and insistence upon truth and togetherness. Other typically tribal groups value Deidra, such as Orcs, Tieflings, Avians, and Satyrs, centaur, and minotaur.
