What are Stars?

Stars are the souls of rulers, leaders & heroes of the past. They are commonly known throughout the lands as the Legends of Old.
It is believed that they look down on the world and watch over everybody.
In the past, the stars have changed, but for the last X years, they have remained the same. People have speculated this is because there is nobody worthwhile left -- only corruption exists now.
Mothers have said to their children that stars are magical flowers in the fields of the Afterlife(?). Another tale is that stars are the children of the sun and moon. The sun is their father and the moon is their mother. There is a dark version of this tale (told by Axel the oil drum) that says the stars flee when the sun rises above the horizon, because the sun is a gluttonous monster who hungers for their light. But there are other versions that paint the moon in the negative light, that say the moon betrayed the sun, cast away from the sun, and cursed to never the sun again.
