Seba-Djai, The Third Planet

Written by skeleton-adventurer

A verdant, garden world with an oxygen rich atmosphere, fruiting plants, and plentiful water, Seba-Djai is our closest neighbor (besides satellites) and was once a candidate for colonization by organics from Her Desher. Many exhaustive tests were done via probe on the toxicity of the soil, local plants, air, and microbes. It was found to be perfect for humans and others with similar biology. (Revalide being most comfortable with a higher concentration of carbon dioxide and the motyldina being most comfortable wherever revalide are found.)
The massive storm which travels around the planet like clockwork and never dies down was considered not a threat, but a source of scientific curiosity. Several of the initial eighty colonizers (forty-one humans, thirty-eight gream'tulug, and one robot) were chosen specifically to study the storm. The storm’s apparent predictability allowed the colony three months to build before the storm hit. Property damage was minor, but within hours of the storm’s passage, every organic in the colony turned violent. What followed was a bloodbath and the colony’s only robot (who did not speak a word for the next fifty years) was the only survivor. All the governments of Her Desher agreed that however the storm caused this, it was too dangerous to organics for direct study. No robot would volunteer after what their brother went through and the families of the fallen colonists agreed that their loved ones’ deaths would not be given meaning by risking more lives. The planet is now off-limits to all travelers from Her Desher.
