Eraphin

Eraphin (also known as shadelings and moon children) are dark skinned, bipedal, intelligent creatures that can be found just about everywhere in Radavain. They are notable for their three distinct ethnic groups: the Tene'hai, who see all things considered 'dark' or 'ugly' as beautiful; the Bara'hai, who pledge their lives to uprooting corruption and supporting the underprivileged; and the Carel'hai, notoriously secretive hermits who hide themselves away to train as powerful assassins and battle-mages. All Eraphin worship the night and the moon as their religion, living their lives by the celestial fluctuations, though to what extent varies from individual to individual.

Basic Information

Eraphin are born with darker toned skin, ranging from purple to blue to black, and their eyes have a similarly wide range of hues, though red is the most common. Eraphin hair is very pale and fine, often being compared to moonlight, and grows quickly. Their ears are pointed, allowing for more sensitive hearing, and their eyes help them see in the darkness of night without issue. Though naturally slender, Eraphin who choose to live among other species in the major cities are just as prone to obesity as any other race; likely, their willowy and lithe frames are more due to culture than to any act of metabolism.   The age at which an Eraphin is considered an adult changes depending on their ethnic group and its rituals, but often no sooner than 20 years of age. The average Eraphin can live for millennium, though the Bara'hai are notoriously shorter lived due to their dangerous lives and reckless choices. Eraphin sexually reproduce, with an average gestation period of seven moons, and the chance of an Eraphin having twins is much higher than any other race. Twins are seen as a blessing and a good omen.

Tene'hai

The Tene'hai believe that all life should be in balance. There is no such thing as 'good' or 'evil', and the darkness is just as important as the light. To this end, the Tene'hai see all things usually disregarded or feared by the other races of Radavain, as essential and important. They often keep spiders, rats, and snakes as pets; grow and cultivate poisonous or deadly plants; and have been known to build graveyards among their houses and social spaces. They are also well-known for their distinctive make-up practices, especially the smudging of black pigment around their eyes to make it look as if they have been crying. Though many find the Tene'hai disturbing or scary, many others known these people to be darkly beautiful and capable of creating poetry and music that deals and copes with the darkness of life.

Bara'hai

Greedy bankers, abusive bosses and corrupt governments all fear the name of the Bara'hai. These Eraphin have devoted their life and culture to taking down those who would abuse and use the lesser and unfortunate for their own gain. They highly value independence and freedom by any means necessary, and aren't afraid to use violence to get their way. This has earned them a certain reputation as dangerous criminals among Radavain's elite, but those who have befriended a Bara'hai would tell you anything but. It's not uncommon for these rebels to have a sweet side, kind and generous behind their tough facades. Nomads by nature, Bara'hai tribes can often be found roaming wherever liberation is needed or a helping hand can be given, in exchange for food, shelter and good company.

Carel'hai

Not much is known about the Carel'hai, as they are notoriously reclusive and outsiders are very rarely permitted to leave their secret enclaves alive. Even other Eraphin do not know much about these groups- only that their worship of the moon is much stricter than any other. As soon as a Carel'hai can walk, they are taught to master their fears, so that they can become powerful illusionists and spies. For this reason, Carel'hai assassins are highly desired by the wealthy and powerful. Carel'hai tend to bear no discerning marks or traits that would differentiate them from other clans; they pride themselves on being able to seamlessly blend in with whatever place they end up in. Many say that you will never truly know a Carel'hai... and you will never fully be able to trust one, either, unless you are worth something to them.
A Carel'hai defends themselves from attack.
