Paper towns can become real as people seek to create what they believe should be there. This is more obvious in a world where anything one believes can be magically enforced. Some of the people involved get elevated to godhood. However, the responsibilities of a natural life were already too difficult for them, and being a god did not change this in the slightest.   This is an attempt to see the progress of history in many different forms, and from different (magical) perspectives. Yes, Orcs believe most fervently in a god of lies, this is because a lie freed them from slavery to demons. It's all in the perspective. Gremlins don't believe in magic, for example. Civilized society really wishes they'd stop disbelieving in magic around complex machinery. Figuring out what they accidentally stopped from working is a task nobody wants.   It all started with Dwarves. Dwarves, unlike humans, move further into caves the more advanced they get. The first move into a mountain coincided with both the first recorded murder, and the first appearance of the personification of death. Coincidentally, Death was first recorded assisting in the investigation into the first murder.
