Historical Details

Background

Many hundreds of years before the project went underway, there were powerful individuals known as liches, who drained their soul into a new body in order to live forever. They would maintain both their memories and those of the host, living as a sort of parasite off of the living body of an unwilling subject. More "ethical" liches used corpses, so as to not cause harm to another living being and to make their connection to the dead that much stronger.
These practices are well documented and understood, and Sterlina planned to use it for the benefit of their nation.
The alliance between Sterlina and the recently renamed New Dendarin officially began in the year AC1168, following years of assistance with arming the soldiers of the latter with advanced weaponry. Having heard of Amelia Kohen's Born Immortal status and abilities, the inability to remain deceased, the leadership of Sterlina made a personal journey to New Dendarin to secure an official alliance. They saw the value of the ability she wielded, and wished to harness it for themselves.
While in New Dendarin, operatives secured samples of Amelia Kohen's saliva, hair, and blood. They were extremely thankful to have gotten the latter following an unforeseen accident during a meal. With these samples in hand, they returned to Sterlina.

History

The project went underway immediately upon returning to the facility that had been prepared for them , with the blood sample being stripped of its soul essence. The soul sample was sent off to be amplified, copied, and stored in something similar to a Drow Dojamunita. Then, the hair, saliva, and blood samples were used to make copies of her genetic structure. These artificial cells were placed within surrogate mothers, either women volunteering for the program or working within the program. They had cellular division induced in a similar way to how Drow same-sex couples conceive.
While it took a dozens of tries even to induce the transition from artificial egg to zygote, many hundreds more failed to exhibit any signs of inheriting the ability they desired. This was tested by intentionally birthing them via cesarean section at only 20 weeks and grafting a soul blank onto them. By AC1171 the process had successfully created thirty-seven pregnancies resulting in specimens with the ability to survive such a premature birth and not reject the soul graft.
The first two who survived their cesarean sections and accepted the soul graft would be the last. The rest were birthed naturally, as the same process was used to create them. Upon birth, they were provided with the dojamunita, or soul pendant, and the the copied soul of Amelia Kohen was grafted onto the child.
As it was an amplified sample, no memories were expected to survive the process, even less so due to the fact that it was an infant host. The children were given designations and callsigns, separated into groups of four with the exception of one group of five, and were raised with strict discipline.
These groups would form bonds much like siblings would, as they were raised and training together since birth. Some relationships would grow beyond such familial ones, however. Units 0-1 and 0-2 are known to be romantically involved, though this was not stopped. Many militaries of the world promote romantic involvement between servicemen of the same rank, as this is seen to promote fighting to protect one another. This would be the downfall of the program, however.
Each was individually capable of killing a full fireteam of armed and trained soldiers, while unarmed and unarmored, at the age of twelve.

When fully grown, they stood at a height of 5' 9.5", or 176.5 cm, weighed an average of 120 pounds, or 54.5 kilograms, and gained and maintained lean muscle with ease. Unexpected effects resulted from having Amelia's DNA fed properly and exercised vigorously. It was revealed that she was a half-demon related to House Drake.
While it was known her body featured many birthmarks now revealed to be the natural patterns of Drake demons, her horns never grew out and the marks never flushed deep red due to her malnourishment as a child. Their horns are strictly kept under a certain length, though each is allowed to shape them however they please. They grow roughly 8 inches / 20 cm per year to an unknown final length.
All feature a similar appearance, as they all share one parent with minimal influence from the carrier of the fetus, and were raised in similar environments.

Legacy

Alpha Undying stands as a success in the eyes of the Sterlinian government, but a horrible atrocity even in the eyes of many of the workers. The women volunteering to be artificially impregnated were under the impression that they would take the baby home. Many were naturally infertile and believed this was their chance to become a mother.
Some became violent when they learned the fetuses would be removed prematurely. Many were sedated to have the procedure done, others yet were executed when their defiance could not be overcome peacefully. Those who lived had the memories of the program removed so as to not allow it to become public knowledge.
The lasting effects of the program were 37 government employees with daughters that were not truly theirs, hundreds of heartbroken civilians who don't remember the reason they cry, and 37 soldiers raised to be effective killers.
The soldiers have no names, only designations and callsigns. The first five are the most well trained of the batch, often operating solo or in pairs, with the other 32 split into teams of four. They are named in alphabetical order in the same order as their birth, with the last two premature births, the first successful clones, simply receiving designations.

I was told to describe myself by the project leader at the top of the documents, and comment my feelings about the project as we go, so here it is. My name is Mei Tsukuda, aged 34, half-elf, 158 centimeters tall, I weigh 45 kilograms, and I've had a string of failed conceptions after the last batch. I've been stuck on paper duty while I rest.
The purpose of this document is to record the births of A-U specimens numbered 51 through 100 in group D. Volunteer surrogates have dried up, so they have become spaced out as there are a limited number of employed females at the project that can be utilized, some were less than willing until they discovered how well they would be compensated. We had to wait several months for these.

My last specimen, my only success, and the first successful graft. I received back pats and was showered with attention for the two months I took to recover. I was congratulated, handed this new life after her graft. She had my ears and eyes. She was cute, and doesn't cry unless she needs something, but I didn't feel an urge to protect her. This whole project had gone on for almost three years at that point, it had been beaten into us that these children are not ours, and she looked just about nothing like me.
I'll still do my job, maybe I'll come to love her like a mother should. I don't know, it hasn't happened yet.
