Pit Guilds

These institutions are one of the two foundations on which the famed sport of Pit Fighting is built upon. Outsiders often times mix them up with the other, the Pit Schools, yet the two see to entirely different functions in the matter.
For the most part, the Pit Guild is the administrative body, they own the Fighting Pit, and the right to host contests there. This right is given out by the local rulers, and with Pit Fighting being as popular as it is, one must comply with strict regulations.   There could be many both legal and illegal Pit Guilds in one city at the same time, and it is not uncommon that these are entangled in combat of their own to outshine the others. In better cases, these are handled in the shadows or in courtrooms, in worse, pit fighters of opposing allegiance take it to the streets for a little go-as-you-please form of contest.

To start such a business, first and foremost, the Guildmasters must demonstrate that they are in full knowledge of all the rules concerning Pit Fighting and organising a Pit Fight event in front of governmental inspectors. If they are satisfied with the answers, then the building of the Pit may begin at the time and the place determined by them.
The inspectors must also personally observe the whole process of the constructions to see whether or not these regulations apply to the Fighting Pit in question which includes measurements, localization, and safety precautions. Once everything is in order, the Fighting Pit may be opened for business.
The third, and the hardest part of the whole thing is finding, and contracting Pit Schools. When the Guild is lucky, they may be visited by School representatives first who are just as new as they are in hopes that they make it big together. However, having any school involved is just not enough, even the rookie Guilds know it well enough that without noteworthy Pit fighters, they might as well not start at all.
Famous Pit Schools on the other hand demand outrageous cuts for settling down with a Guild, because they know that they worth that many.

Pit Guilds are made up of four different committees. The Guildmasters are the shareholders of the organization and the Pit building itself. They bring the most important decisions, but before they do, they must agree on it with a majority. A Guild with a single leader is rare but possible.
The Treasurer Committee is responsible for keeping an eye on the coffers of the guild and the flow of the coins within them.
The Judging Committee is the most active part of the Guild, they must be present at every event hosted by them. They are responsible for overseeing that all the rules are observed accordingly which involves securing the building, checking the state of the participating fighters and their equipment, and they also act as referees during the fight.
The Contact Committee is the one responsible for carrying out the business deals of the Guildmasters. They are the negotiators, representatives and businessmen of the Guild and because of their good skill in speech, they sometimes act as announcers during the fights.
Aside from them, the Guild has much other personnel from slaves who keep the building clean and in shape to men-at-arms who guard it against petty criminal or rivalling Pit Guild attacks.
