OttL Session 4: Getting Stoned

General Summary

The party, just finishing up with Hobbs' "birthday" party, reconvenes aboard Barry the Airship. Izar is not on deck, however, and Druid Kaiser is still absent.   Hobbs, Thaiva Phenol, and Memento Vitae all go to find Druid Kaiser. Natsu and Ignacio Icarsus retire to their rooms.   Bosgosho goes looking for Izar in the captain's quarters, but opens the door to find himself face to face with a medusa. Combat ensues. Bosgosho is alone at first, but reinforcements trickle in as the fight goes on. Ignacio Icarsus is the first responder. Natsu follows shortly behind, and Memento Vitae, Thaiva Phenol, and Hobbs eventually arrive to provide assistance also. Hobbs looks at the medusa during the fight and is petrified almost immediately. The medusa is doing non-lethal damage, and knocks out both Ignacio Icarsus and Natsu. Ignacio Icarsus is revived and then knocked out again on two separate occasions.  Natsu is reverted to her feral form when she is knocked out, thus revealing her shapeshifting nature to the party (aside from Hobbs, who was petrified at the time and did not see it)   During the fight, the medusa reveals that she has come due to a bounty placed on "Klaedris". Slightly later in the fight it becomes clear this "Klaedris" she refers to is actually Thaiva Phenol. Her parents had put out a 600gp bounty to have her captured alive. The medusa is eventually subdued, and Memento Vitae places shackles on her. She carried a mask that covered her eyes, which the party placed on her head so that they could carry out a meaningful conversation.   The medusa claimed her name was Lenora, that she had two children, and that she was not doing this work of her own volition. She said she had to "get back her two percent". The party eventually lets her go. Natsu confines herself to her quarters and locks the door, remaining there for the remainder of the session. The rest of the party heads to the top deck to tell Druid Kaiser about what happened. They find him smoking marijuana, and he cracks up laughing when he hears about what has happened to his two equestrian companions. He agrees to go down and provide them each with a greater restoration.   Bosgosho, meanwhile, finds himself with a small amount of time alone in Izar's office. He tries searching through the documents, but they are all in sylvan and he cannot even pick out meaningful numbers. He does, however, find a strange metallic black box which is abnormally cold to the touch and has a large elaborate lock on it. He contemplates taking it, but decides it would be too obvious it was him and leaves the box alone.   Once everyone is revived, they convene in the galley for some idle chitchat. Hobbs decides to make everyone a "cake", which turns out to be meat loaf. Thaiva Phenol gets Druid Kaiser to share some of his marijuana. She tells Izar that she does not know why her parents wanted her captured, but she was not inclined to find out.   Back in his quarters, Ignacio Icarsus is startled by a strange noise coming from the ship. He goes to the engine room to investigate, and through passing three consecutive arcana checks, discovers that:
  1. The cause is some extra sigils added around the elemental core of Barry's M-series Airship Engine
  2. Removes said extra sigils, with only a minor bit of turbulence as a result
  3. Identifies the writing to be a scrying sensor. The sensor was probably not placed as deliberate sabotage; more likely they thought they could hide it with the other sigils and did not realize it would disturb the machinery.
Everyone settles in for the night, but then Hobbs wakes them up with more food. As they eat, Izar has a realization and asks the crew if they had checked the ship for signs of theft or other stowaways. The party immediately sets off to check for these things. A preliminary investigation reveals nothing, but the party wants to do a more thorough search. They also still need to take a long rest, and may do so in shifts just in case there is still another attacker on board the ship.
