Asena Vulandor is the eldest child of Lord Maedon Vulandor and Lady Ingemaria Vulandor, sister to Sarena Vulandor, wife to the seventh king of Raintandarm, Magnusson Nevantine and mother to Rhagnareon Nevantine and Daryana Nevantine. In her teenage years, she was also known as the Silver Warrior when she anonymously participated in the annual Grand Spring Bout. It was a nickname given to her by the spectators for being an unbeatable fighter for five years.

Asena was born into one of Raintandarm's oldest noble families, the House Vulandor. She was crowned as the Queen of Raintandarm when she married Magnusson Nevantine at the age of twenty-two. Ten months after her marriage, she gave birth to her first child, Rhagnareon Nevantine. Two years later, she gave birth to her second child, Daryana Nevantine.
