High Summer 3019, Day 25 Report - Part 2 - Continuing up the tower

General Summary

After a few encounters with animated objects, the party continues exploring the second floor of the mage's tower...

They open the next door on the second floor, once again, beds. However, this time Walter decides to poke the beds with his 10 foot pole - resulting in one of the sheets to move into life. The party quickly dispatched of the woolen blanket, shredding it to pieces without much effort.

The next room, a bathroom. Which they chose not to inspect.

The next, a larger room with a double bed flanked by two end tables, a rug lay in the center of the room, as did a trunk. Walter steps into the room and on to the rug to allow Effie to inspect the chest before opening it, when he is suddenly wrapped up by the rug. Elric lashed out with a thorn whip, pulling Walter out of the grasp of the rug, allowing the others to finish it off.

In the end table of the room, Walter finds Thabo's journal. In the chest, nothing but clothing.

This place is "booby trapped"
— Millie
I am telling you, the people in this place are stuck here and we are killing them
— Effie

The party proceeds going room by room. The next, a bedroom with eight beds. Instead of allowing Walter to continue prodding things to life, Millie lights a bunch of the beds on fire as they enter the next room as they then have to fight one more animated sheet, flames surrounding them. After the fight concluded, Elric doused the fire with a conjured rainstorm

Once again, fed up with things coming to life, in the next room, Millie goes in, grabs the chest, walks out, closes the door. Although the chest does not have anything other than more clothes.

Going up

The party makes their way up to the third floor of the tower, where they find the remains of some sort of workroom. Three desks with what appears to be notes, books, vials, and other trinkets - two of which were unceremoniously dumped into Willumin's pack. The last, Walter carefully leafed through a book about the metal dome. Meanwhile, Elric goes over to the bookcases, flipping through a book about the tower and Effie goes over and checks out a pile of bones. Bones that rattle and move on their own to form two skeletons, that are summarily crumbled into a pile once again. Then Effie goes over to the cauldron to check out what might be in it, to only be greeted by a bubbling mass of viscous liquid, come to life, that too is quickly defeated.

He healed me. Preservation of an artifact
— Millie, speaking of Willumin

They proceeded to the fourth floor, where Walter squealed in glee as they found the library of the tower.

Thabo's journal

The journal doesn't have great detail of what actually occurred at the tower. It is more of the daily log of an individual named Thabo.

The journal does disclose that he crossed the sea on a ship named the Morning Star in the year 2908, although encountering different things than the party - fire that fell from the sky, animated water that attacked the ship and other unnatural weather patterns. The ship suffered casualties, but they managed to make it through, finding their way to Shelter, where they encountered others that made it through the Fog.

Thabo joined a group of other mages and druids, helped in the construction of the tower and began his research on the Fog as well as the other strange feature of note - the metallic dome at the approximate center of the island.

Dome Research

Short version - the mages threw various items at the metal dome - rocks, sticks, small animals, and eventually even touching the dome themselves. However, nothing penetrated the dome and nothing was effected by the dome. The dome appears to consist of a molten metal, yet solid, impenetrable, not hot, but the temperature of the air. Spells were cast at the dome, but nothing happened.

Tower Research

It appears that the mages were using the tower as their location of study. On the first island closest to the Fog as well as only a short distance from the mysterious metal dome. They apparently were using the tower as a sort of conduit for their research and spells.

Fog Research

The book lists out all the different types of observations that were made when each ship went through the fog.
